Hello,
I'm an new member from Germany.
I started with archery in 1978 at the age of 14. One year later our scene here in Germany was swapped by all the beautiful Bear recurve bows at a very low price because in your country the compound fever broke out. (Hope I express myself the right way).
I got two bows from my dealer. A Bear Kodiak Hunter and a Bear Bruin II. Unfortunately I cannot find anything about the latter one but it was made in Grayling, Mi.
In the mid-80s I started shooting with muzzleloaders, later changed to hunting with rifle and shotgun (bowhunting is illegal in Germany) but now found back to my roots - archery.
I wondered if my old bows would still work without beeing damaged and was quite astonished when I found this site here via a German archery forum.
And now I'm here, reading and reading.
A few days ago I bought a Bear Grizzly from 1969 at a mail order dealer here in Germany. Unfortunately the old bow as not arrived yet but hope I would be able to test it on Saturday or Sunday.
By the way: Some of you may know the man who was the owner of my nickname: Elmer Keith. I admire him because of his way to live and the way he mastered his life during difficult times in the 20s and 30s.
Welcome aboard. :campfire: I wouldn't worry about them old Bear bows, they'll be fine.
And yep, Elmer Keith was one of a kind. Kinda like the Fred Bear of handguns. My first handgun was a Ruger Super Blackhawk, 44 Mag. Heck of a round and Elmer got the most out of it.
Nowadays it's nice and quiet and deadly. Back to our roots...Trad. Archery. :archer: Welcome.
BTW.....did you ever hear of Elmer's cousin..Joe?
Welcome Stephan!
There are a few members from Germany that you will see here from time to time. I spent 20 months or so in your country in the early seventies while I was in the military. Met many fine German friends while I was there.
Welcome, good to have you here! :wavey:
Welcome - as you already know there is much to learn here and much to share here!
Herzlich willkommen in der heimat :archer:
welcome home bud
Good to have you, Stephan. Your journey with the Bear bows will be very interesting and rewarding. This is the best place to learn more about the bows and 'the man'..........Shick
Willkommen Stephan :bigsmyl:

Welcome :campfire:
Welcome. My sister in-law and neice live in or near K town. My nephew is in the U.S. Airforce.
Welcome to the Gang!! Sounds like you'll need some vacation time here in the U.S.A someday to put those bows to use on some game. :campfire:
Last I heard of Elmer Kieth he was bragging about shooting an Eagle off a telephone pole about 60 yds away. Never wanted to hear anymore. Biff
Grüß Gott Stephan!
Thank you for the warm greetings to welcome me at the campfire.
I'm living at in the Teutoburger Wald area not far away from the place where the Romans were defeated by Herman the Cherusker and his men and not to far away from our companion, V-Archer. It's about 70 km to the German/Netherland border.
Would love to visit those historical lands Stephan, my paternal grandmother's family Vreeland came from the Netherlands...which reminds me of V-Archer who sure makes a beauty of a bow too
Glad to have you
:campfire:
Willkommen!

Your German is very good!
Bamberg, Dresden and Leipzig are among the most beautiful cities in Germany. Especially Bamberg must be the top of the line. Unfortunately I've never been in one of them.
But I saw Dresden while driving on the highway after a hunting weekend about 30 km away from Dresden.
My wife's Grandmother and my father in law have luckily seen Dresden before it was almost destroyed during WWII. It was of course more beautiful in those days than it will ever be.
Vielen Dank. Jetzt habe ich zwei kleinen Kinder und seit zwoelf Jahren bin ich weg von Dland. Die Zeit da hat mir sehr gut gefallen.
Welcome to tradgang. I got back into shooting my old Bear Kodiak Magnum after awhile on the dark side (compound). Now I am seriously considering a longbow in the Howard Hill style. That for me is classic traditional style.
