Our spring turkey has always started on Monday. I figure they are spreading the crowd a little. :dunno:
-
Best wishes to you too!!
-
I hear ya Kenny. I won't get up north until Tuesday... don't feel like I'm missing much with the weather. Turns out my wife had Dr. appointments Tuesday. If it wasn't gonna be so hot I'd have had to have a serious talk with her.
Good luck when you do get out.
-
Life and work in the way this weekend. I will hunt Tuesday if not too hot.
-
I might go sit in my stand for an hour or so just for the view..good luck to all that do get out.
-
I'll be after them - gotta lotta deer around this year and some real nice bucks to chase.....don't let that heat fool ya - them deer will still move
Tim B
-
Oh yeah, they gotta eat and drink! I've found scrapes already too but I'm sure they are night moves... :)
-
I'm going to make it up to our place in late October. I like the action of the pre rut. Our herd is recovering from EHD. I didn't get to go up last year so I'll make at least a couple of trips this year. Good hunting to y'all.

Good luck folks

I'll be out tomorrow. Don't know yet if morning or evening but I'll be out there sometime.
-
Good luck fellas!!
I’m itching for some more successful hunt stories.
-
I'll be out tomorrow evening. Gotta deal with some hot temps, but that's not enough to stop me. I've got some good bucks hanging around, so hopefully one will make an appearance.
-
No hunting for me today but worked a bit on the stands on lease. They are now ready for the guys next Friday!
-
I came real close to getting it done tonight on a good one. He just stayed behind too much thick stuff. I'll be at it again tomorrow evening.
-
I didn't make it out.... got to go out and eat with the wife! Still a little too warm for me. Next weekend might be looking good !!!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,

What a night it was. Bucks started showing up at 6 all of them eating corn clover and persimmon I'm sittin over. A couple of the smaller bucks pushed each other around a bit. All were hard horn except a lil 3 pt. Had a 120" or so walk right under me 2x and I thought about it for a min....then my "freak" buck showed up but stayed back at 40 yds and disappeared in the corn. Then all the bucks kinda dispersed and a couple 1.5 yr does headed my way. I tried to stop the first one and she didn't wanna stop and I was worried about my top limb hitting a branch and ended up gut shooting her. She made a big U loop around the edge of the corn and then I thought I heard the crashing stop abruptly. I regrouped back at the truck a few then took up the non existant blood trail. Not a drop was found. I back tracked and looked at the corn for blood in case she cut into the corn somewhere....nothing. I circled around the woods that was on the back side of the corn. Found her still alive but don't think she could get up. Anyway.....I got her.
Late night by the time I got home and skinned etc - slept in but will be back after them tonight.
I got pics of the doe and a decent buck I passed but I'm too dum to post them
Tim B

Congrats Tim! Text me the pics and I'll try and post them for you if you want.

Nice pics the doe will eat well...! I worked yet another 13 hour HOT Saturday yesterday. I should hunt Tuesday in the cooler first light morning. Great pics and thanks for sharing.

No shot on the buck???
-
I coulda shot him a couple times. He is just a young buck w great potential. Plus I have some better ones running around. But admittedly when I first saw him I thought about it.
Tim B
-
Good job Tim!!
I haven't been out yet. :saywhat:
-
Congratulations Tim!
-
Saw a doe and 2 fawns this evening. It was pretty slow and really warm.
-
I mowed the yard Jake, so you had a way better evening than I did!! LOL
-
Haha. I'm not sure, it was pretty hot and miserable for awhile. I'm ready for this coming weekend. Looks like a temp drop for us. I'm hoping this will be the end of these 90 degree days.
-
Yeah, 90 + for the next 3 days is gonna put a damper on hunting for me..... got my VPA's the other day and they're ready to eat! Just have to wait another week!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd

It's hot but I'll be heading back to my corn edge while the bucks are still in this summer pattern. Hopefully the "freak" will come closer than 35 tonight!
Saw 7 deer last night despite this heat. Thank god for thermacells lol
Tim B

If you're seeing deer, the heat is bearable!! :biglaugh:

Exactly, if you can work on the heat, certainly you can hunt in it! Better hot up a tree than cool on the couch.

That's a good one oldschool!
I had that 8 under me again last night but the other bucks didn't show. Then I passed a doe and then choked on her fawn- just have a pinch of belly hair to show for the shot at 12 yds -- you guys get to shoot my hat now or what. It's only gonna feel like 95 this evening so think I'll head to my doe only farm and see what's happening. Whose dum enough to hunt w me? Lol
Tim B
-
I was all fired up about going earlyseason, till the weatherman screwed up my plans by making it all hot and sweaty, I can wait a lil while...not long though I hope....my cousin killed a real nice 175 incher in full velvet so that's not helping either.. really not wanting to deal with butchering in this heat...
GOOD LUCK if you brave the heat..
-
Just silly hot today. My deer cooler is on a truck and should be delivered tomorrow. If I get a delivery confirmation tonight I will hunt in the morning. Last year was the first season in over twenty years that I did not have close and easy access to a 36* awesome walk in cooler on our family farm. I moved forty miles West. I should have my home processing "center" set up complete and ready tomorrow. I've killed deer in 95+ degree heat only because I was close to that walk in. Now I will be set up at my new place...
-
I’m not crazy about trying to take care of meat in 90 weather so I’m trying to get things that would interfere done now. This weekend when it cools the deer should crank up !!
-
The grey on top of my head and in my beard - along with the aches and pains in my knees, hips and back have long subdued my desire to hunt in any weather extremes (cold or heat). So, while I have been flinging arrows and broad heads into a practice target, this heat has even kept me from even buying my tags. Then this evening I stepped onto my back deck to shoot a few arrows and had two does within three yards of my target butt. I had arrows with sharpened Tigersharks in the quiver and had to laugh because both deer seemed to be totally unconcerned with my presence on the deck. Oh well, I didn't feel like tracking, dragging, gutting, skinning and quartering so much as a limb rat tonight. Maybe I'll need to have my morning coffee on the deck this weekend. Bow-in-hand of course. :biglaugh:
-
Getting rained out this morning but this cooler weather is gonna be a welcomed change!
Tim B
-
Doug, maybe them does have seen you shoot before and weren't too worried..
LOL
-
Roy, they have a lot less to worry about when I'm totin' a longbow than they do if I've got my bow with training wheels. So you're probably correct. :biglaugh:
-
Well, I had a golden opportunity slip thru my fingers yesterday evening. Had a nice mature 8 at 13 yards and didn't get the shot off in time. I'm still kicking myself, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be last night.
-
Thursday afternoon Sears came through for me so I finished my "processing" at home center with cooler included. Friday I made it home in time with the 70* temps and snuck into a stand. The supposedly NW wind would blow consistent then switch to the east of all places for a few minutes then back to NW... You guessed it I had two does coming in and of course smelled me at about forty yards. All part of bowhunting and I was pleased to see deer within a half hour of my first bowhunt of the season. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

John that's a nice set up!
Jake if it easy everyone would do it - keep after them.
I've had a couple uneventful hunts but then last night was exciting. I have a clover plot and there was this huge clump of trees n bushes right next to it- so a few years ago I cleaned out the middle and called it the monster isle blind. That's where I was. About 7 pm here he come. It was a buck I had a pic of. He is a mainframe 8 with a small kicker of his left G2. He is probably 115-120" 3 yr old. I decided to let him walk but he had my heart pumping....

Got away for my first few days this year. I put up with a couple days of heat before the cool front came through. I'd brought plenty of short sleeve stuff but not a single long sleeve camo T. That wasn't too bright. From being too hot to shiver time. Sheesh.
I put up a new stand and had a button buck come by my first sit. He got a pass and the rest of my time was uneventful except for one lonely racoon. It's just going to get better.

Well, my Mo tag is punched ladies and gents. Cold front was supposed to be moving in for Friday thru Sunday. I normally only hunt thru the week so my my fatherly and hubandly duties are full filled (girls in club soccer and volleyball) but..... After a week long trip to Colorado chasing ghost elk, I had to get out to see some animals.
We got up to the farm around 2 on Friday and did a quick run to pull cards. We actually ran out of time to look at said cards before having to shower and put on the plaid. My good friend Buddy told me to go to a stand right behind the cabin called "Denny's stand" on the edge of a big bean field. Now I have wanted to hunt this stand since I have gotten on the lease 4 years ago but the one time I went to sit it, it was stolen. I put a new hang-on and sticks up and still never sat it. I guess it was always suspect to me because you can see the cabin from there. Oh, and the thievery.
I head down at 5:00 and get strapped in. Beautiful night. 66°, sunny and enough breeze to give you a fighting chance against the mosquitoes. Almost an hour in, a forkie heads to the beans and then back behind me. Then another smaller 6 point. They are back and forth and really close. Most times within 10yds. Then does show up in the food plot just to the South of me. Deer are flat on their feet. I hear some chewing behind me. I'm thinking to myself, "this 6pnt needs to go before he busts me". I don't even turn around because he is been all over me. Finally, for some reason, I turn around and just see "heavy" antlers. "Oh Sh*#" and grabbed my Schafer hanging on the hook. Split brow buck (I had no clue what deer it was at the time, too nervous) was within 5yds. He walked right underneath me. I had to wait for him to walk a little further out because he was too close. He got to 10yds and headed to the beans. I couldn't stop him because I thought he would spooked. He hesitated and I didn't.
Full metal jacket and VPA head was on it's way. Clean pass thru, mule kick and off he flew across the bean field (that's 3ft tall and becomes significant later). They shot was perfect up and down BUT... It was back a bit. Oh no, here we go. I thought liver at first and MAYBE one lung because he was quartering away a bit. The buck headed to an island of trees about 250-300yds away.
After the buck ran off, deer started moving everywhere. Smaller 8's, does behind me, east of me... Everywhere. I sat until they all moved off, texted Buddy and headed down to get out of there. My arrow was buried 6 inches into the dirt and covered with good blood and splatter on the grass around. Buddy and I decided to wait till 9:30 to take up the chase. I learned very important leassons on this buck
1. I have shot recollection amnesia. Where I thought he ran was not what he actually did.
2. Tracking blood in said beanfield is TOUGH
3. New LED flashlights and healamps suck for tracking. They wash the color out of everything.
We tracked blood till 12:30 and finally had to give up for the night. We made almost to the end of the beanfield and lost blood. We would find blood on the underside of the leaves of the bean plant because they were so tall. Our eyes were exhausted and had to quit for the night. The temperature was 48° and he should be ok. Every deer we have ever let lay overnight on this farm has been gotten to by coyotes before morning.
I didn't sleep a wink that night begging for sunlight. I just knew we weren't going to find him (I am a glass half empty guy, sadly. I like to think of myself as a realist). The light hit the beanfield that morning and off we went. It's amazing how things look different in the sunlight. Our marking tape showed the path and honestly, he was only 20yds into a DIFFERENT set of trees than I thought he ran. (There's my shot amnesia I have). I was SOOO relieved and happy we found him. A better buck than I realized AND the coyotes hadn't touched him at all. I am blessed my wife and girls put up with my hunting antics. I'll post pictures after this call I'm heading on

Thanks everybody. I am thrilled. The ONLY downside is no buck tag till November. I always love my 2 weeks in November before the gun season in the colder weather. Cleanses the soul a bit for me

Cooler weather has them moving - was a great night last night - saw 18 total and had the freak and his 2 buddies come out at last light - had them at 30 or a little more....which is too far for me.
Stay after them boys

Strange thing this morning from a acorn grove brush blind. Had 2 small 8pts come by about 15 yards away. Then here come a little doe fawn running behind them. I couldent pass that up and hit her perfect. She didn't go far. Those treesharks are hard on game.
Tim B
-
I went last night and 1 doe come by at 6:20pm. 35 yards and showed no intention to slow down nor come closer..... no worries, says I. At least I'm seeing deer!
This morning found me running a little late.... I had trouble finding my rain gear. I wound up having a little 6 pt follow me to the stand.... about 10 minutes behind me! He passed at 22 yards. We have a point restriction, but doubt I'd have tried him..... Lots of season left!
-
Congratulations tim

Nice morning to be out. Stayed in the stand until 10:15 with no sightings. Did have a turkey purring behind me and some scratching but so dense I never saw it. Here is a pic of the logging road I was posting on.

Last nite was a good evening, this morn not so much. Saw around 20 to 25 last nite , only one decent 8 , rest little guys and antlerless. Could have filled a couple freezers but got a big hoorah at the house tomorrow and didn't want to mess with em… yet.
this morn only one doe moving right along upwind of me. Wind and misting had her heading for a bed I think.
-
I slipped into one of my stands the other morning and sat a couple hrs. noticed there was not much for sign around my stand. so I figured id sneak around to see what I could find. got to the end of a draw and spotted this young 9 point, was hoping he would continue around the end of the draw to me, but then he bedded and a doe trotted up and looked right at me and started snorting at me, he stayed bedded as she walked right past him and he watched her wander into the thicket. I watched him for awhile then thought im gonna sneak up on him. I slipped up to the log jam and was thinking of dropping my backpack to go over the logs when he stood up and stuck his head around the tree and looked at me. I eased an arrow on to the string and he took a few steps into an opening. and I thought naw..not today. and turned and walked away. he never blew at me or nothing , just watched me walk away. so anyway I saw 2 deer. :biglaugh:

Hunted the corn Friday night and hung a camera there by the blind. Wouldent ya know it the "freak" showed up sat and I got some good pics of him on cam. Wind should be good ima slip back in there tonight while he is still using the area. Seems the bachelor groups are starting to break up a bit.
Stay after them boys.....

This last trip north I passed on 2 bucks. Both of them dinks and both right under me. Saw a good one at a distance and since it was the 3rd deer I'd seen there I'll be checking that spot out next trip. I think I know what's going on over there.
The last evening I had my usual luck on a doe. Since it was time to get to get down (I usually get down 4 or 5 minutes before the end of legal shooting time) I hooked my bow to the chord I use to raise and lower it and sent it to the ground. Turning to grab my haversack I peeked around the tree to see a doe standing at 10-15 yds.
How she didn't see the bow being lowered I'll never know. What I do know is that she didn't miss it when I tried to raise it back up. Poopy!!!
-
Them does have a 6th 7th and 8th sence Charlie don't they?
I didn't hunt last night - but I put in 2 wheat plots over the harvested corn specifically for the freak. Have a cam on one spot....
Record nights today but ima hunt them anyway - moon chart says they gonna move well tonight!
Tim B
-
I gotta get to huntin!! :banghead:
-
I ended uhunting last night and had a good hunt. I had a doe in range, but passed since she was so jumpy. I also saw a buck that we have a bunch of pics of, a cool looking 2.5 year old. I could hear other deer out in the standing corn but never could see them. I had some more come in right at dark and bust me as I tried to sneak out. I'll be at it again tonight on a different farm. Hoping a doe will stroll by this evening.

Well, the rain had stopped this morning and wasn't supposed to start back up until sometime after noon, so after a quick check of the radar I decided to hunt this morning. I decided I would only sit on stand until about 9:00 so I would have time to wait, track, gut, drag, hang, skin and quarter before the storms set back in - should I get an opportunity. I had big, old , fat raccoon come by around 7:40 and then 5 turkeys a little after 8:00. When 8:45 came around I was about ready to pack it in for the morning and sat down to turn off my thermacell, when two yearlings came running in from behind me. It took a while, but I was able to get my bow in hand and stand back up undetected. The two youngsters were eating white oak acorns that have been dropping like rain all along the ridge. They had fed away from me while I was trying to get back up and I was afraid my opportunity was gone, then they both turned and worked their way back toward my stand. The red coated little doe came broadside at 10 yards, I focused on a tiny spot behind the shoulder, drew the 42# Omega, anchored and released the string. Something felt strange on the release and I watched in terror as the Beman tipped with a 175gr. Tigershark hit her squarely through the right hind quarter. She jumped and tried to run, but could barely move. I pulled another arrow from the quiver, but there was too much brush between us now for a follow up shot. She went about 20 yards and laid down. She tried to stand one time, rolled over and expired. She expired less than a minute after the shot. I had [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] climbed down quickly in case I needed another shot to end any suffering, but there was no need. The arrow had penetrated through both hams severing both femoral arteries. Not quite the way I'd hoped it would go, but it was quick and she was recovered. This was only my second trad harvest - the first one was 21 years ago in honor of an uncle who had passed away. I believe the "strange feeling" when I released the bowstring was the bowstring catching on the adjustment buckle of my harness strap. The one thing I didn't put on during practice sessions. I will try to post a pic if I can figure out how to do it with this damn Chromebook. Still a bit unsure how I feel about this one - kinda like I really screwed up but got really lucky.
-
They say it's better to be lucky than good.... not how you wanted it, but you still made meat!
Congrats!
-
Thanks! I know what you're saying, but if you're good - ya don't have to rely quite so much on luck. :archer2:

That will be excellent eats!!

I looking forward to this cold front. Skeeters bout to wear me out. Tried to hunt the bottoms last night and only lasted 5 min w the thermacell. Left and went to I high oak ridge.

Yesterday I was in freakville and checked the only cam I have on that property. Sure enough the freak was on cam 30 min before dark the evening before. Strike while the iron is hot right? So I hunt this spot which is a cut corn that I turned into a sowed but yet to germinate wheat plot. Had good deer movement but then 45 min before dark the rain set in. Then didn't see another deer.
Rain this morning but the wind will be good for that stand again tonight....decisions decisions

Great hunt this morn , lost count of does seen , only 2 fawns tho. May be war on yotes this winter.
Wind was slowly switching from se to ne and had deer getting nervous when downwind out aways from me so sneaked our when none were around.
Passed half a dozen good shots , still have plenty of time...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181014/42a35c43f85656216386823e324e2002.jpg)

Sat morn found me in the stand just off that food plot into the woods. I could barely see the little field thru the leaves and branches. The deer enter this field about three ways and I was covering one. About 7:45 I saw some deer enter the field from the east side at a trot. I could just see their legs moving thru the brush. I thought the wind was OK, it was changing some when I saw them exit the field the way they came and one blow softly. I was about 50 yds to the N of them.
I was looking at the field, turned my eyes to the left and a 1 1/2 yr old doe (eater) was 15 yds in front of me. The wet leaves and thick foliage had covered it's approach. I managed to ease to a standing position . She was nervous and looking at the field. I needed her to take one more step. This was about 15 min after the other deer left the field. Maybe she had heard the snort.
She turned to her left and put a tree between us and walked straight away from me. A second doe had come up and was wired too. I had a shot with just a few leaves covering her chest (in hindsight I should have taken that shot). She followed her buddy. A half hour later I believe they walked behind me. Sat eve was a bust as I got rained out after about an hour in a different stand. All in all a good hunt. When I turned my head and saw that deer right in front of me I got the big adrenalin dump. You guys know what I'm talking about. :)

Tonight marked my first hunt this year of not seeing a deer. ... kinda bummed me out until I pulled the SD card from the camera that is 17 yards from the stand......

That's a nice buck!! Hope you are in that stand when he comes thru again!
I was out tonite on a new stand on my 68 acres. Near a clover patch to catch them coming to it and be able to get out if they stay.
Hour before dark I see a deer at other end of clover 250 yds off. Binos and its a spike, another deer with a heavy rack thru tree limbs. Ahh, looking good!! :o
-
Ahh then guy next farm starts talking loudly to dog... both deer hightail it.
Another good buck comes from other way but wants nothing to do with grunts and light rattling and keeps on going..
Game over, deer win !
-
That is a dandy!!! That's what keeps us going back. Best of luck
-
Oldschool and John them are some nice ones.
I had a herd of deer hitting my clover plot last night....only prob was I was in the ladder stand in the acorns about 40 yds away.....
Back to freakville tonight....

Hey gang - Its been awhile since I posted. Shot this guy on 10/10 with my Toelke longbow. Believe it or not, he was chasing a yearling doe. Grunting, scraping and the whole nine yards. She brought him past my stand and shot him as he trotted past. Good luck out there this season and stay safe! I think the Snuffer I used I bought off of KennyM quite a few years ago...Ha!

Had another good night....hunting my pecan tree stand by the corn / wheat field that adjoins thick cover. About 630 a lone'ol mule headed doe came slipping right behind the stand. Caught me off guard when I caught a glimpse at 20. Now this stand has started squeaking to the point that last night I was spitting on all the bolt connections to alleviate this haha - so I was mindful not to shift my weight much. Got my bow off the hanging branch just in time and hit her with the treeshark about perfect.
-
congratts!, man your loading the freezer.

Congrats, Tim.
On the deer and picture:)

Thanks boys- I don't have the pics down pat yet tho- one was suppose to be the hit. Lemme try again

Well my vacation has begun. I don't go back to work til November 5th, so maybe I can actually shoot a deer in the meantime. Headed to our farm here in a bit looking to fill a doe tag.

Good luck Jake - been wondering what happened to ya.
Should be a good morning here. NW wind finally

Well I didn’t get it done this morn, had a doe come in at 14 yards unaware. Took my time drew shot and she got out from under it somehow . When I retrieved the arrow and lined up where it was back to my stand it passed the trail at less than 24” off ground . Wow their reflexes are awesome!!
-
They can humble us sometimes huh Kenny - ouch - been there myself.
Seen late deer movement this morning. Gonna go to a clover plot here shortly....
Tim B
-
Had a spike walk directly under me this morning and also watched a doe fawn eating acorns for a bit. Pretty slow morning. I'm back along the river tonight close to home. I've already seen a couple flocks of turkeys, so hopefully that's a good sign for the rest of the sit.
-
Hoping I have one down. Shot looked good.....
-
Hope so Jake!
-
:campfire:
-
Oh yeah, I got her. She ran 60-70 yards. Shot was perfect. I drug her out to the other side of his treeline and got back in the stand.
-
Congratulations Jake
-
Thanks. I got so close to doubling up and killing a dandy buck. Got down and stalked him but could only get to about 45 yards and ran out of room.

Attaboy Jake!!!
Looking fwd to pics!

Well s*#t. Looks like you just figured it out :biglaugh:
-
that looks like a BIG doe. and your way down there in flatland.
-
I ended up just using Imgur like I have in the past.
She was a pretty good sized doe. Not my biggest, but a nice mature doe. It is definitely flat at that place. Right on the banks of the Mississippi. Some giant crop fields down there. It's a lot different than our farm, but it's fun hunting different trrrain.
-
Nice to have the sun in evening kill pics! Nice job Jake!
Last night was one of those nights where the does were too far and the bucks that stood below me were too small- ha fun hunt tho that was topped up w a big skunk crusing through at dark

Saturday nite had 4 bucks in range but none I wanted. Here is a decent 8 and the spike that challenged him. Spike postured and then tried to lock up with him(carefully) the eight wasn’t worried and was nice with him. 12 yards

Yes, some small bucks are trying to chase does but the does are havin none of it yet . We don’t need the meat and I will have plenty of time later I hope!

I have these 2 running around.... hopefully they'll drop their guard in the next couple weeks.
-
Well, I let an arrow loose tonight. I shot a coyote at about 10 yards this evening. I heard him crashing around, but couldn't ever find him. Blood was almost nonexistent, and it was dark, so I'll have to go back in the morning to see if I can recover it. He was one of 5 coyotes that I watched this evening. Saw 7 deer and 40 something turkeys, but the coyote was the only thing that came close.
-
Rodd, do you have more pics? Those look like the same deer to me :dunno:
-
I agree that's the same deer old'school. He's a dandy too.
Good luck finding that yote jake!

This guy walked by me sat morning. Wouldn’t have shot him but he was right on top of me before I saw him. It is still so green there are no fresh leaves on the ground. Makes it tough to see and hard to hear them coming.
Sat eve had a doe at 5 yds. She came up straight behind me and was next to my stand when I heard a noise, looked down and there she was. She turned and headed straight away and I rose to stand. She hit my scent about the same time and jumped sideways a bit. It was then nervous Nellie time and she headed off really not knowing what was going on.
Sun did 11 hrs in two stands. Heard a guttural buck grunt close in the morning but he was in the thick stuff and never saw him. One doe out of range in the afternoon and 4-5 hens just out of range. Turkeys are tough when you are in a tree. They saw me but nervously hung around for a bit before moseying on.
-
I never did find the coyote I shot. I know it has to be dead though. My arrow went through both shoulders and he was crashing around pretty hard when he went out of sight. He ran over to the neighbors though, and I'm not gonna go tromp around on their property and mess up any of their hunting. So this evening I'm set up on the ground with my ghillie suit on, hoping for turkeys. Hopefully all the gobblers show up the same as they did yesterday.
-
Bvas, that's the only pics that I have of bucks of any size..... locations of the cameras are better than a mile apart..... he must be wandering around!
-
I looked at it again and think you're right. ... that left beam is pretty distinctive. ..
-
This one might be a different one... [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
-
I put my son in my favorite stand last week and took to the ground myself. Before the boy got there I did a little investigative scouting of an area I was suspicious of. A tree seat and ghillie were uniform of the day. Didn't see a thing until about 9 a.m. A crash right behind me made me jerk my head a little in time to see the white flag of a little doe no more than a few yards behind me.
She ran straight away for 20 yards and then made a hard right turn. In another 20 yds. she turned hard right again and passed me at about 10 yds. at the speed of light... ok, maybe a little less. Anyway she ran down the drainage about 40 yds and was out of sight.
I was sitting there thinking how cool that had been when I heard a commotion down where I'd seen her last. All of a sudden I saw here flash across the drainage and out of sight once more. What craziness! Once again I heard crashing and here she came straight at me passing by no more than 5 ft. away and off behind me. What craziness!w
Well it seems she wasn't done as she came racing back in my direction and right by just as close as the last time. Once again she was out of sight just down the drainage. I can't say I've ever experienced anything like it. 3 times she'd raced by. But wait!! m
.
Just when I thought the show was over I spotted movement where she had been last and the sound of crunching leaves. Here she came just as close and just as fast as before. This time she came to a halt under the branches of a cedar tree I had trimmed and stood looking back in my direction.
I didn't know what to expect at this point but she finally "slowly" eased off into the brush. It was a most entertaining morning.
-
Charlie, ya gotta stop eating those wild fermented grapes like the turkey and grouse do:)
-
This one might be a different one...
Yep. I’d say that’s a different one.
-
Not much happened where I was tonite , 3 does, little 8 and an ugly racked buck bout ear width with 1” points off main on left and 3” off main on right side.
-
Man that moon is bright.
Seen a couple spikes a doe and some turkeys last night....
Tim B
-
Didn't those cows tell ya that deer don't come out till after dark with a full moon?
-
I had a slow evening yesterday. I ended up seeing 2 little bucks and a few does and fawns. My wife on the other hand, ended up seeing 5 different shooter bucks. She said each one of them had a single mature doe with them. So this evening we are gonna go see if we can get on them. Crazy that all those bucks were all out on the field at the same time.
-
Jake, a guy on my lease had 9 bucks yesterday morn and not a doe. You guys think rut is gonna be early?
-
I wonder if it will be a little early. Seems like these are the first cool temps we have had this time of year in awhile. Maybe it's just cool enough that the bucks are on their feet more. At that river farm, it seems like that last week of October can be fantastic for big buck sightings and encounters.
-
I agree on big buck sightings as we catch a glimpse of them but as far as real rutting activity I'm thinking it will be about the same but take that with a grain of salt cause I'm generally dum haha
Tim B
-
I sat yesterday morning. Weather was cool in the high 40's and sunny. Had a doe come in at around 0800 and gave me a 10yd shot. I drew and for some strange reason, let down. She got a pass for the day. It was supposed to be close to 70 yesterday and really didn't want to mess with processing her so quick.
There was a bright side to letting her browse around. I had a 6pnt come in that was probably the most vocal buck I have ever heard. He was grunting and snorting his fool head off. He pushed her all over that meadow and passed by well within shooting range also. Awesome morning.
I guess I am getting comfortable in my hunting career. The last 2 years I have let deer walk just to watch them. I do feel like the rut could be a touch early this year. Probably just because I have to wait for my rifle tag to kick in for my buck tag back
-
Well, my brothers gf saw something most people don't get to see. While hunting at our farm this morning, she witnessed a bobcat attack a deer. Unfortunately for the button buck, the cat caught it by surprise and killed it right away. She said it was rolling around bawling for a few seconds, and then everything was quiet. When she got down from hunting she went to look it over and found the fawn lying there dead. The cat apparently killed it and then just abandoned it.
-
Wow !! I’ve never seen one do anything but sneak. Haven’t seen one while hunting yet this year, must mean I’m not huntin enough!!
-
Rattled in a 6 pt tonight about 5:45... he passed to the north of me at 45 yards. 30 minutes later a 5 pt came from the north headed east. And on the way out a 3rd buck was in the picked corn field by my house.... 3 bucks, all too small, but I'm seeing them!
-
Had a good sit this evening. I ended up seeing 70+ deer and around 50 turkeys. I did get to see the buck I've been after as well. I'm glad I got to see where he entered the field, so I'm gonna go after him as soon as the wind is right for the spot he came out at. We will be at it again in the morning. Hopefully my wife can knock down a doe.
-
I had a very interesting evening tonight. We had overcast skies with a light east wind. I got in the stand much later than I like (5:00 pm), but I'll take every minute I can get. Hadn't seen anything and with the cloud cover I lost several minutes of shooting light. Then with about 2 minutes of usable light I heard crashing coming through the timber ahead of me. Two does went right under me at a dead run. Then I heard grunting - the buck ran under me and wouldn't stop due to my grunting at him.
I heard the buck stop just after he got out of sight. He seemed to have turned around and was headed back my direction. Then I heard a deep grunt coming from the other direction. The first buck started to walk towards this other grunt. Another deep grunt followed by the sound of small trees being shredded. Then the body of a rather large buck appeared. It was now too dark to see head gear, but the shadowy figures closed to within 15 yards. The larger bodied deer let out a snort-wheeze and the smaller of the two moved away giving up the right of way.
This bigger buck moved slowly through this little oak flat grunting and making scrapes. I then started hearing grunts from three different directions. Every grunt was followed by a snort- wheeze from this big bodied deer right by my stand. He wouldn't leave and other deer started showing up like they there to see some kind of show. The big guy finally moved off grunting and snort-wheezing the entire way - taking his entourage with him. I was finally able to get down from the tree at 7:47pm.
I've never had an experience like that in 30 years of bow hunting. Most of that time was with training wheels. :bigsmyl: It does seem like the rut is kicking in here in the Lake of the Ozarks area.
-
Hmmm lots of posts indicating an early rut. Let me ask you guys, I have the option of traveling to southern MO to hunt some private land for several days either thisweekend or next. I like early rut but figured next weekend would be better for seeing older bucks on their feet in shooting hours. Do y'all think it could be just as good to go this weekend if planning all day sits or wait for November 2nd?
-
I had a funny 8 come in last night but then had a lot if activity right at dark. Thought I waited long enough to climb down but then spooked 3 more when I did.
Recurve hunter - I have always had better luck in early nov than late oct.
Tim B
-
Does at dark last nite and one little buck. Been a good time to fill freezer.
My advice woul
be go both weeks! LOL
Seriously I remember the MDC saying most does are bred on Nov 17 on average.
I would go first week in Nov...
-
I've re-evaluated and Kenny is absoutely right....go both weeks
Tim B
-
Youth rifle season is this weekend. ... I would opt for the latter.
-
November 5,6,7,8 are the best four days to bowhunt Missouri each year... I am hunting "grey light" to dark from 11/4-11/9.
-
The Wednesday before gun season , this year the 7th, has been my most productive day overall .
I call it Magic Wednesday... :bigsmyl:
-
Last night I had a 1.5 yr old buck running around grunting his head off but the does were just laughing at him....
Tim B
-
I'm staying local, will get out in the AR public land and hope to see some cruising this weekend and next week in MO
-
I'm at our farm this evening. My wife and I both hunted up here this morning and saw some does and fawns. My wife had a doe at about 2 yards but wasn't comfortable with the angle so she passed. We are set up on a different hillside this afternoon. Found a fresh good sized rub on the way in. Hoping I'm along his travel route to the neighbors corn.
-
You guys are having a lot of action. Keep it up.
If you do any rattling, do you use real antlers, rattle bag or what?
I usually prefer the antlers but depending on which stand I'm hunting it can be a pain carrying them. What do you all do?
-
Dan, I've used both and if the buck is ready either works well. If not, at least with antlers you can rake a tree or limb and sometimes change his mind. Thinking about making a rough hardwood stick to use for rubbing to see if it does anything for them...
I like the rattle bags (not the huge ones) for ease of packing with you.
The buck in avatar came to grunting , and a rattle bag my bro got for me. That thing is so old the fabric is about to give out but still working...
-
Well we didn't end up seeing anything yesterday evening. We slept in this morning and got some chores done around the house, but we are back at it again this evening down along the river. I brushed my wife in alongside a really big cottonwood overlooking our biggest food plot. We haven't hunted it yet, but it is tore up with fresh sign so I'm hoping she will get a chance at one of the bucks we are after. I'm sitting on the ground as well, overlooking a cut bean field. I'm not very far from where I shot the coyote the other day. I would settle for another one of them. Anyways, it's a nice evening just to sit and watch the field if nothing else. Good luck to everybody out this evening.
-
Seen a real nice choc 10 pt this morn - then grunted in a smaller 9 to about 25 yds. Worked all mid day and gonna chug some coffee and hunt the farm where the freak lives.....
Oh the big choc 10 was right on the heels of a doe and the 9 came on same trail 30 min later....things are heating up
Don't leave home without yer grunt tube
Tim B
-
I've got a nice 8 out across the field from me right now. Hoping he heads this way like they usually do.
-
Nothing but squirrels for me this evening. .... :banghead:
-
Well, the 8 point never did make his way to me. I ended up having 2 little bucks walk by that I could've shot. That's a lot of fun while sitting on the ground. My wife saw several deer, but never had anything close enough that she wanted to shoot. We will be back at it again in the morning.
-
checked my camera, and found these on it.....
now if I can be there when one of these ghosts of the night make a daytime appearance...

Bucks really responding to the grunt tube right now. Last night....Big n wide 8 I think headed down edge of field from where I thought big ones bedded. Gonna pass at 35....I let him pass a but then he starts a scrape.....I grunt - he stares.....I wait for him to move and start scrape again- I grunt again.....heads straight for me.....stops at 25 facing and can see through to other field and he don't see no deer so he left.....all I could do. Heading back out shortly
Tim B
-
Saw a doe and a shooter this morning , both too far but great to see!! :bigsmyl:
-
Not much action to speak of this morning. I had one doe pass me right at first light and that was it. My wife saw a couple does with no buck in tow, then saw 3 more with a buck following them. She said he was probably in that 100-110 inch range so she would've passed anyways. This evening I'm on the ground going for broke. This spot is either gonna let me get up close and personal with a good buck, or get me busted. I have the right wind so I'm trying it out.
-
almost shot a decent 8 this morning at 6-7 yards. was trying to video it and went to move the camera and it came lose from its mount...there I was, with a bow in one hand and a camera in the other. OH WELL, I drew on him twice before I relized the camera needed to be moved.
he was coming to this scrape

-
I've been seeing deer but just too far at 25-35 yards... I want them at twenty steps or closer.. LOL Happy to see all these deer and one day all will work out.
-
I had 5 different bucks in and around me this morning. ... doe beats and grunting had no effect on them. They just kept passing through.
One of them was a good 8 point that got inside of 20 yards, but where he was ( behind my tree), there was no shot opportunity. He finally got my wind and that was it. Very exciting morning! !!!!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
-
Big bucks are definitely out and about. My wife saw 3 really good ones last night, and I thought I was gonna get a shot at a stud of a buck this morning. Had him at 45 yards, but he just walked straight away from me. Wouldn't respond to a grunt call either. I'm on the ground tonight trying to shoot a turkey, and my wife is in a stand that a group of does comes by every evening. Hopefully she can knock one down and I can get a shot at one of these birds.
-
MAN !! I worked til after dark last nite and before daylite this morn trying to beat rain. did it but now it's raining and I'm not hunting!! I may take off work tomorrow to trick or treat.... :biglaugh:
-
Well ya won't need to dress up or wear a mask:)
-
LOL
-
Just laid down in bed. My wife ended up shooting a doe this evening. She didn't know where she hit, and we couldn't find any blood at all for the longest time. I started working back and forth and finally picked up a little bit of blood. Well, we started tracking and got a pretty good ways and the blood stopped. I swung my light around and my wife told me to shine back at a spot. There she laid. The wife had double lunged her. That doe had to of went somewhere around 175 yards with both lungs knocked out. It was a really good shot, hard to believe she went that far and bled so little. Anyways, we just got all that put in the cooler and it's time to hit the hay.
-
Congratulations to your wife Jake that’s awesome!
-
Excellent!! They have no quit in them sometimes.
-
Yeah congrats to yer wife Jake!
Looks like a couple days of rain here
Tim B
-
Congrats to the wife, Jake..
-
Thank you. I wish that she shot a stickbow so that I could post some pics, but she shoots a compound for now. I'm working on her though. Aside from the doe, she saw a really nice buck last night and I saw a good one too. The wind ended up giving me away, as it swirled when he was about 80 yards out and walking to me. Today is deer processing day since it's supposed to be storming for most of the day. Time to get our work done and get ready to get after them again once the weather clears up.
-
Today Halloween starts the magic two weeks every year. I snuck in this morning to place one of my "November only" stands. Yes I bumped deer coming out of course but things look promising! Noticed the rub climbing down--15 steps from my tree. I will bowhunt hard from Nov 4 thru Nov 9. A week of vacation used wisely.....! BTW most of my November stands are set for a N-NW or NE wind. Magic days ahead everyone. Be safe and hunt hard...!

-
Good luck to you Kenny!

Are you kidding Kenny? He has that stuck in his pack or around his neck all the time. We are going together Saturday. Maybe I can blow it then.
-
LOL ,glad he likes it!!
I had an almost tonight, 3rd buck I saw was about a half our before quitting time. He was behind me and headed straight away when I saw him, starting across a picked beanfield. He was screened by a couple pinoaks at about 60 yards so I stood up and grunted at him. Couldn't see him and nothing -- so a grunted again -- nothing -- so I picked up my old rattle bag that my bro gave me a looong time ago and clashed it for a few seconds-- nothin!! Then he hove into view at a good walk straight at me . There is an old logging road right by the stand and he looked to be coming....
But, he wasn't torque off enough to make a mistake and he started the dreaded downwind circle at 40 yards and got something he didn't like , turned and at the same brisk walk went back the other way. Not sure if he smelled me or just smelled a rat cause the timber is open and he couldn't see any other deer but he didn't run off ,just walked on out. . I guess pretty conservative but I figured about 140 ish which is just a number bro and I use to describe deer, never had one measured ...
-
Good story Kenny - stay after'em....
Hopefully the rain let's up down here for the evening hunt.....I need to get back to freakville....

I was rained out of work yesterday,.. I hunted from 11:00 till dark. sat in 4 different stands. nothing but a spike seen.

I've been awol on a pheasant hunt up north and work this week but leaving tmrw eve and hunting thru wed. Then a Fri hunt before the orange army hits.

Too Bad Kenny. Good luck, keep at it and you will make it happen.

Sat last night in the drizel and high winds hoping for a break but it didn't happen- winds blew hard till well after dark. Maybe the rain will miss us today....

-
Bumped 2 does on my way in this evening. ... about 5:45 a nice young 8 pt came cruising by at 50 yards. Watched him for 20 minutes before he finally wandered off.
I tried to call him closer to get good pics, but he was having none of it.

I saw 4 or 5 bucks after a doe last nite , it’s about to be on ,guys!! :bigsmyl:
-
Thanks boys....waitin to see what this rain is gonna do....hope it blows out for the afternoon hunt.
-
I saw 3 bucks and 3 does yesterday morning. They came thru on a trail that isn't really there about 25 yds away but covered up with brush instead off the trail right in front of me. 3 more does came thru the same spot last night. Raining hard this morning so I just put up a stand to cover both spots.
Kenny, your idea of using your boot for a bow holder is great. I'm using that now.
-
Haha that’s the reason I don’t do recurves. I built one a few years ago and it fell out of the tree twice!!
What I like about it is you only need to move your hand a few inches to reach the bow.
-
Headed to deer camp tomorrow afternoon. .. gonna get some different scenery!
Kenny, it is out in your neighborhood. .. just a little more east, Brookfield, to be exact. My buddies have had a good start on does, so I'm gonna show them how to knock down bucks! :biglaugh:
Anyway, I'll be off the grid for a few days.
Good luck, boys!
God bless,
Rodd
-
Dang Rodd, I hunt just north of B field!!
There are no bucks around here... :biglaugh:

Lies and bs, Kenny! !!!

Good luck boys

Big boy never made it by. Couple medium bucks and a spike that was chasin a doe.

No rabbit in the hat on magic Wednesday here... I think gun is almost a week early this year, probably about Monday will be the big movement.
-
I went out after work to pull my cameras, and left this one till the last. and sat in my ridge stand till dark. had a 8 point chasing a doe behind me. when I left I pulled this camera on my way out...….DANG IT! sat in the wrong stand. he was there while I was on the ridge....my stand is 10 yards from that scrape!

Wonderful Wednesday here. I had a beautiful wide as his ears 8 point walk under me at exactly 5:10 this evening. I had wrapped my tab around the string and was about to stop him when I noticed he had broken tines on his left side. I didn't stop him and watched the show for a few minutes. FUN as it gets! Let him grow another year. I am so happy just to get that close to him and be able to watch him being a buck in the rut. FUN! I will get after them again tomorrow noonish.
-
Last night I had a doe sneaking through and there was a small buck right behind her....and he stayed right on her until the were outta sight 100yds away. Then a diff buck came cruising behind be with it's mouth open and tounge dragging the ground. Heading out for a all day'er here in a bit. Good luck boys
Tim B
-
Tim, ya sure that wasn't Kennym cruising behind ya?
LOL
-
Saw a real good one this morning. He was just cruising looking for a doe. I tried to call him to me, but he wasn't veering off course. There was another buck that heard my calls though. A 10 point came marching to me ready to fight. I had tension on the string at first, but decided to pass on him as he was a 3 year old and he was putting on a show for me. He was mad enough that he destroyed a sapling and had bark and shavings all over his forehead and face. It was good entertainment.
-
Woke up Tuesday around midnight coughing my head off and feeling miserable. That was it. I knew it wouldn't go away in time. Now I'm at home in my easy chair still coughing and feeling like crap. Oh well, I gave it hell. Good luck everybody.
-
hope you get to fealing better Charlie,... so you can get in some rut time.
I got out of work early for a dentist appt. then headed straight for my stand.
the BIG 8 showed up 10 min before dark. BUSTED!...looked straight at me and turned around and walked away. gonna move my stand!
-
seen a great big ol bobcat this eve. thought it was a coyote at first till I got a clear view. and 2 different spikes all around me then a nice young tall 8 came through pretty quick.
-
I got this one this morning at 0830....
Been seeing him of an evening since Tues and he finally gave me a chance this morning. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

nice one, congratts! ...with snow on the ground too..BONUS.

Good job Rodd !!! I had to work today , dang work is a 4 letter word!! By tonite, it was very windy and cold. But I have gun tags so if it looks decent sometime tomorrow, I'll be out there with my longbow!!
-
Congrats oldskool!!
I hunted all day yesterday and saw 4 bucks and 5 doe. No real rut activity going on for some reason.
Tim B

  :bigsmyl:
-
Congrats oldskool! I had a good encounter yesterday morning with a decent 8 that got a free pass. Saw several does and fawns too. I saw a big boy yesterday evening, but he wasn't going to leave a doe and I couldn't get to them. He ended up bedding in a field and staying with 3 does all evening. My guess is that one is on the verge of coming into heat and he is gonna be there to take care of business. I can't hunt again til Tuesday due to work. Good luck to everybody out this weekend.
-
Congrats Oldschool!
-
10 degrees this morning at 5:00 so I opted to work in the shop.
Tonite I went to the lease and sat a thick spot , can't see far but hoped it would be a good one. Had a decent 8 at 30 , then a doe at 6 . Hoping she would drag something by and she idled out to 15 eating dry oak leaves???
Then she looked north for a moment , I thought- I bet she hears something. She turned south and messed a bit more, then galloped out thru my best shoot lane and across the open field. Hmmmm… Then I hear grunting and a buck from the north shows up. Yep that's what she was hearing...
He comes up the where she turned an I was thinkin yes -- trail her up thru my lane
Nope, wasn't what he was looking for and he turned away still behing brush at 15 yards and went west out of site. I would have taken him for a truck ride had I had a chance...
Great hunt! :bigsmyl:
-
Hang in there Kenny!

got the big 8 point yesterday eve. at 4:30. left till morning for tracking. :goldtooth:

Congrats! Heck of a buck!

Nice buck congrats
-
Great buck Arrow30... For me it's almost a given that when I shoot an evening deer it's gonna lay till morning. So far I've been lucky with the coyotes.
Charlie... it's been a tough one to beat but I'm feeling better finally. Still not doing much and long hard coughing spells mean no trips to the woods yet. I'll get there. Thanks.
-
Saturday morning sure was cold, but it was pretty with a dusting of snow. and now we get more today.

Here’s how my season is going.😀
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
That’s me going by at 724. Camera is an hour off. It was sleeting. Stand is by the brush on the side of the road just a bit ahead. There weren’t any fresh tracks on the road and I had been hunting it a lot so went to another stand. Actually stopped, looked at the stand, debated and moved on.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
He goes by at 10 ish.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
That’s me pulling the card six minutes behind him. Oh well. 😀
-
that was close...stay on em.
-
That was close.... at least he's running during shooting times!
-
Pics like that will keep ya going back!
-
Not out today in the blizzard but went last night and at last light heard a grunt. 2 does materialized in a sea of big bluestem coming toward me. I mean I was looking and there appeared a tannish spot that kept getting darker til it was a deer. Kind of surreal.
The buck behind them wasn't the biggest I'd seen this year, but looked like he would work...
supper's ready...
-
:campfire:
-
:coffee: :saywhat:
-
Sorry! LOL
He was a 130ish eight but instead of crossing the ditch and coming by at 8 yards, his two girlfriends decided to go along field edge at 40 yards. He followed in a trance...
-
:dunno: :readit: got me going!
-
He had me going til they turned west ! LOL
-
Heading out for a afternoon hunt tonight.....have a pretty good 8 that's been using this area semi-regurlarly......
Kenny- go make a happy ending for your story now lol
Tim B
-
Get em Tim!
-
bbrrrrr, good luck. il see what the wind chill is later. :o
-
We had several inches of snow last night, can't really tell how much because the wind was 50+ mph. I figured it would take me to noon to dig out but the snow was very wet when it started and didn't drift. The dryer snow later did, but we were lucky. Didn't have to get my skidder out of shed at all.
I may be off this eve and will try to get somewhere if so. :archer2:
-
None of that snow down here....should be mid 30's and the wind will taper off. Hopefully my new pathfinder from Teresa Asbell will come today and I can put it to the test haha
Tim B
-
Tim, make sure to have a wind blocking layer on under that Pathfinder. They are warm but any kind of breeze blows right through mine.
-
I got out Thankgiving night and had some luck. I saw this buck twice before rifle in his bedding area. One time I had him at 30 wrecking trees and grunting after I snort wheezed him in but no shot...way too thick and brushy. My son and I hunted everyday of rifle and never saw him or any larger buck.
I figured he might be holed up in the thick stuff where I had seen him before. Sure enough, right at closing time he came walking out of there and came below & behind me at 20 yards. I think the only reason he stopped was because he just started to catch my wind but it was too late.
He ran about 60 yards and expired. Heart & lung shot. My arrow broke off and I couldn't find an exit hole in his off side. Figured I had hit the offside shoulder but was suprised to find my broadhead with a piece of shaft near his knee on the offside leg. That broadhead must of hit the shoulder and then followed his leg bone down.....pretty wild.
-
Excellent job Jeremy!!

Thanks Kenny!

As much as I dislike seeing a lot coyotes where I'm hunting, I hate to see them get mange and go into the winter like that. You know that's a miserable way to go, and I don't wish that on anything. They are a very cunning and interesting animal to observe.

Agreed on all counts.
-
^^ yep!
-
Out tonight, saw about 20 including 2 bucks . One was chasing a doe in the field(little beggar) and the other was pushing deer around in the thick cover. Saw him once right at dark, big body but couldn't tell anything much on rack...
Deer all around me and no snorting, love that!! :bigsmyl:
Anybody else late season hunting?
-
This is a little late, but I thought I'd share.
My hunting goals were a bit modified this year with a new baby at home. My main goal was to harvest a buck on public land accessed by canoe.
I have access to some pretty decent private land, but I love the chess match of hunting new areas.
I was fortunate to achieve my goal on a comfy October evening.

Went at 2 this afternoon, must have been late, saw 8 on the way to stand and more all evening. Think deer like nice weather as much as we do!!
Passed a half rack at 12 yards that I probably would have shot if he hadn't been so hard on his headgear!
-
Seems to be feast or famine now, they are bunched up quite a bit. More eyes to fool!
4 big does with one fawn last eve at 3:00 then nothing except squirrels.
Saw 26 in one 25 acre beanfield a few days ago....
-
Nice job Coach!!
Stay after them Kenny. I hope to get back after them real soon...finally got my new pathfinder and an joys to put it to work
Tim B

finally got back out in a stand this eve. felt good to be out, didn't see anything but it was nice just being back in the stand.

We are about to finish the hurry up project tomorrow I think. Soooo, I may actually be able to get out more! :bigsmyl:
-
Finish it and get back in the woods Kenny, looking forward to seeing your hunts!

What did the cows say, Tim?

Sunday eve , had 9 does and a nice buck I would have taken if one of his harem hadn't gotten edgy and led them the other way. I put the stand there that noon thinking they would be on a trail west of me , guess what - they were on another trail east. No snorts, just edgy nuff to go the other way. Plan B in progress....
-
Took a button buck tonite. Normally let them pass, but didn't have time to get binos out and just could not see the bumps!!
Wanted a deer to smoke the quarters and this one is just right...
