Hi guys.
I glued a bow today. I had a very small gap between the bow and the form so I pushed a small wegde
in. Tonight I pulled the blank off the form and DAMN IT.....I felt so stupid as I found out I pushed wedge between
the glass and the core lam. It`s not in the working portion but I guess it`ll cause problems if left as is.
Can I fix it somehow? Any ideas?
Here are some pics

First off, clean the blank up and see where the glue joint is tight.
If you are still a safe distance from the fades......Remove the bad section of glass, and put scarf joints on both sides. Then add a new piece of glass to fit. I would then add an overlay to cover and extend past the entire area. Very similar to what I’m doing with the recurve tip repair.

:o What..?? Excuse me for Laughing... Bah ha ha ha ha..!!! :biglaugh:
Ok... Now that that is over with... That Sucks... Happens to the best of us... It's still funny though but it still sucks... I feel your pain Bro... Lesson learned I guess...
-
Ps... I think that it is too scary near the fade to possibly to cut and mend... Just fill it with epoxy and clamp it lightly and then wrap the whole area with some cotton twine (kite string) saturated in epoxy... Wrap the other fade area also to look symmetrical...

Drill holes in it and call it a sight.
That really is a bummer. Every time I see a problem during glue up and try to remedy it, something bad happens. You are not alone!

The wedge goes in from one side. The other side of the glass is glued in tight. On the wedge side, the glass is tight 5" from the end of the power lam.
I saw many bows (mainly recurves) that the glass is cut along the belly side of the riser so I thought I could sand the raised part of the glass, keep the side that's tightly glued and glue a glass overlay over the whole riser so it'll basically just be a thick glue joint.
It's a light bow and it's not a working portion.
What do you guys think?
-
I think if your glass overlay is on any part that bends it will pop up. If nothing flexes there it should work.
-
As I said, the gap is 5" from the end of the power lam. I think it doesn`t bend there...
-
I think I would try something along the lines of what Bvas suggested.
Where it is, I don't think it will bend and pop loose.
Give it a try, you don't have anything to lose. Just be safe.

I have an idea, tell me what you think- I'll just cut the sight window so I cut the gap off. It'll give me a larger sight window then I normally make (it'll be 5" high) but that way I eliminate the problem.
-
I think a sight window that big by the looks of things may weaken it, if your at 35lbs or less I'd do what Bvas mentioned, but it's all on you as far as how safe it will be.

Also, 1/16" or 1/8" phenolic overlays are strong and flexible, less chance of popping off and readily available.
