Title: Tom Mussato's file sharpening technique
Post by: Charlie Lamb on September 02, 2018, 09:58:37 AM
With the help of Rob Distefano here's Tom Mussato's method of file sharpening a broadhead. You can find this anytime in the "How To Forum".

I want to publicly thank Rob for the effort he put forth so that we could bring you this video. He does so much more behind the scenes than anyone will ever know.

So thanks buddy. You're the best.

I think rob said this will be on YouTube as well.

I prefer to use files with the safety edge, these have a single row of cutting teeth jutting out.  The system works on single bevels, but the filing action stays mostly on the bevel side with the flat file push with a bit of a lean on the non beveled side, then a diamond hone and leather strop to make them shaving sharp.  I apply the serration on the beveled side, not the flat side of a single bevel.  I use file laying flat to clean up the flat side of the blade and very light strokes with a diamond hone for clean up and then a leather strop.

Thank you for reposting these videos.  Lots of folks don't really know how to sharpen a broadhead with a file.  Great job!

Never believe a man that something is sharp if he doesn't have a BandAid on his finger  :archer:

Thanks for sharing, this will be a great help.

The first time i saw Tom's video with the cut down Ribtec, I thought that had to be the perfect thing, but wanted to make mine single bevel right wing to compliment the basic design of the head.  I tried to grind down two like that, I need better tooling.
