Title: thoughts on arrow wraps
Post by: Yazoo Bowhunter on March 26, 2008, 03:07:00 PM
what's your opinions on arrow wraps.  pros and cons? i just ordered some from onestringer (great people) but besides cosmetics, do they really serve a purpose?

I like using the reflective ones. Has helped me find arrows that where shot last shooting light.

Plus just like a painted cap it lets you know about how much penetration you have on a non pass through shot.

Also easy to see and I have yet to see them fade like some of my painted caps have.

They are easier to remove than painted caps.

A nice indirect benefit is that it is easier to remove and re-fletch the shaft down the line.  I just refletched some shafts I bought a while back.  Hit the wrap with a hair dryer and peel the whole thing off with feathers attached.  Then wipe down with some Goo Gone and then a little Acetone and you are ready to start fresh.  I also like the bright color wraps on my arrows as it really helps me follow the arrow in flight and tell where I hit...especially on an animal.  I pretty much don't shoot arrows without wraps anymore.

I use wraps on my Compound arrows, all orange wraps with all orange blazer vanes just for the visibility factor! Easy to see the shot and easy to find after the shot! Nothing fancy with them just plain jane for visibility! Now with my Cedar arrows I'm making up for the 1st time I wouldn't dream of putting wraps on em'!

I like to use arrow wraps for carbon and aluminum arrows. For carbons they are easy to put on and remove without scraping the carbon shaft itself. With Onestringer they make alot of nice traditional wraps.

I've used them for awhile now, and I use them with fletch tape.  One the feather becomes damamged you can peel it back up without hurting the wrap and refletch.  I since have quit using them due to price, and have started crowning and cresting my arrows.  Little bit of paint goes along way.

I've e-mailed both outfits that mfg. the wraps, asking about the limb-skins. Not enough info. on there sites. How long are the limb-skins? How wide? Haven't got an answer back. Cna't spend my money on an order when I don't know what I'd receive. I like wraps on my carbons, but make them myself. Biff

They work great on all arrows, cedars included.  They are a slick and easy way to dress up your arrows.  Just don't use Duco cement on the wraps it does not work.

Love em'.

I get mine made by Onestringer as well.  They dress up my arrows and make them easier to see in flight and find after a miss, provide a much better surface for fletching adhesion than the bare shaft, and also add a little more weight to the arrow.

I use the different colors/patterns to designate various types of points, fletchings, etc.

These are my hunting arrows...

Sorry Hoytman.......haven't been back to this thread.

The wraps are on the Trad Gang store...and the feathers are from The Nocking Point, a sponsor here.  I buy these same feathers from several sponsors here, and they are 5 inch Flo Yellow shields.

Hatrick...there was a mouse in there, I was just shooting at the grass moving hoping to get lucky.   :D
