Title: Bow String Information Worth Repeating
Post by: LBR on August 06, 2018, 01:15:19 AM
http://www.outlab.it/doc/amostd.pdf  Page 2, under AMO Conventional Bow Length Standard.  Wish more bowyers paid attention to this...it would save us all a lot of headaches.  Notice it doesn't change depending on whether the bow is a longbow or recurve.  It hasn't changed since the standards were first written...in the 50's, I think?  If you are a bowyer and don't like the standard, don't mark them "AMO".  I suggest marking "ASL" (actual string length).  Herters put a sticker on their bows telling the string length because they didn't follow AMO specs.

Nice Chad, I hate it when I see it written that recurves need a string 4" shorter and longbows 3" shorter. I used to believe the same till I started looking into AMO.

Right there with you. I no longer will take an order where the only info is AMO unless I am 100% familiar with that particular bow. Got a box full of "AMO" strings that weren't close. Got to compile a list and special them out one of these days.

Javaman Gregg puts the A.S.L on all his bows. Writes it right there with the poundage specs. Helluva novel idea!

Kudos to him for that. Others should follow his lead there  :wavey:
