This year alone I have had four different groups of animals in which I have shot 2 or more arrows at without them spooking. Two of these groups were javelina which I know is not uncommon, but the others were a fox which offered two shots and a sounder of about 15 pigs in which I got three shots off before they meandered off! (I hit the first two) All of these shots were within 20 yards and most closer than 15.
This is only my second year to really hunt hard with my recurve, but I have not had experiences like this in the past. Anyone else having similar results?
I don't know about "common" but I think I have shot 5 or 6 animals more than once. My thinking is, if I'm able to, I will shoot until the animal is down. Even on a hit I consider fatal, if the animal will give me the opportunity for another shot, I'll take it without hesitation. I can't tell you the number of stories I hear about "mortally wounded" animals that get up and run off, never to be found (though surely died). You mileage may vary but I can't think of a single good excuse NOT to put another arrow in game once you already have one there.
I think you should look at it as a testament to your hunting technique, bow quietness, and hopefully broadheads so sharp they zip through game without them knowing it. Good luck...and here's to multiple shots :thumbsup:

I have had multiple shots on several occasions on white-tailed deer, both does and bucks. Arent quiet bows wonderful???
When I was a youngster, 1966, I shot 8 arrows at some does under an apple tree, got down, scared the deer away, picked up my arrows, got back up in the tree. Few minutes later the deer came back and I shot all 8 arrows again. Never cut a hair.........
That was in the days of dacron strings and cedar arrows, barely a wishhhhhhhhh.......
It depends on how quiet the woods are and how spooky the animals are.A quiet bow is a big plus.For the first time ever this year I had 10 bucks around my stand at the same time opening week.Most were buried in bushes or too close with no shot.One got in the right position and I shot over two others to kill him.Still had to wait 45 minuites untill the others finally feed on far enough to slip down.Give me a quiet bow and a windy day anytime. :)
One of the joys of Traditional and tinkering with a bow until it is as perfect as you can get it.
Darn good thing Biggie isn't keeping stats on accuracy percentage- it would have taken a loooong time to make up for those mmmmmmmiisssssesss. The same can be said for um, me. About the same situation- sitting in an apple tree with my first ever compound- a 1972? PSE. Shooting my lincoln logs, prob around 120 fps. Unloaded the quiver of 5 arrows, got down, reloaded- figured I have better luck standing behind the tree and shooting from the ground. The deer mosey on back- and I proceed to unload again. Not sure either of us was very suprised at the outcome.... they all walked away untouched.....
I shot a pair of great animals on the St. Judes hunt at the Paradise . The first shot I broke the buck's neck and the second double=lunged him ,next shot broke the back of a good pig and then followed up with another double-lung . Those Georgia animals are very obliging . I agree with JC after all the climax of an encounter is the shot and if you can double the pleasure go for it . Best part about my second shots is that it wqas was my turn to pick the distance and shot angle , not always an option .

Had another shot opportunity at a wild goat last year after having made a fatal hit on him.
He would't have made it far at all but I got two more arrows in him within 10 seconds and it was over even quicker.
I had a year that I was pitching a no hitter for a couple of weeks. Had one occasion where a doe stood 8 yds from my stand. I pulled, anchored and shot right over her. I got another arrow out of the quiver and nocked it as she continued to feed. Hadn't taken a step or even looked up. Pulled, anchored and shot over, taking the fletch off of my first arrow. Now that's a group. LOL

I once filled all 3 of my deer tags in about 10 minutes time. I love the silence of the bow ;)
I kinda think old Glenn StCharles mentioned something to the affect of shooting 12-14 arrows at some mountian goats all in one round.....bowdoc
I fool around a lot during off season hunting like it was the real thing but not killing. I have often, more times than I can remember been extremely close, less than 10 yards from elk and deer and shot an arrow near them to see their reaction. It is amazing how few of them show any thing but curiosity. One cow elk that I was close to I shot an arrow into a tree about 3 feet in front of her she looked at it, then walked over to it stuck her muzzle at it and I guess when she smelled me on it took off like a bat out of hell. critters are funny.
Its been my experience that you will get more multiple shots w/ a bow then w/ a gun.
