I decided instead of bocote, I would put together an all MO woods forward handle longbow to put in my stock bow blank empty slot... :)
-
Walnut/Osage riser with maple accents. Walnut veneers and red elm cores. Think it’s gonna look pretty good ...

Purty snazzy ole boy..
-
Very nice!
-
WOW, Kenny, that some very nice wood!! can't wait to see the bow!! Do you have the plans for that bow on sale?
-
My walnut aint that purty :dunno:
-
That was a really skinny scrap pc I couldn't throw away! It sat in the corner for years and I finally sawed it up into really skinny veneers. Actually still had saw marks that I strategically placed to be ground off during profiling... I hope... :o
No plans drawn yet, still R&D on it...
-
Your Kung Fu is strong Kenny! I like it!
-
Next time your gonna throw away wood like that......just put a ship it to me. I'll take care of disposal for ya :goldtooth:
-
Kenny's trash barrel is full of great treasures! It is one of my favorite place to dig around! :goldtooth:

That’d be a looong drive for me to go dumpster diving :o
-
Actually not a trash barrel, just stuff that can't be easily used and yet I can't throw it in a real trash barrel!
-
So it’s the......I may use that some day barrel.
-
Scrap barrel!!!
-
A lot of it will only make one pair of lams, and I rarely get calls for a single side of a bow. The walnut I had thrown in there because it was a decent pair, and then decided to split them and if it didn't work, burn em.
I think they made around .020 with some saw marks on the edge on the back of one. :o
-
I’m sure it’s going to make a great looking bow when you are done!
-
So does someone have to buy it in order to see it finished? :o :)
-
LOL, no but it has been on the back burner for a bit. You know, MOJAM and getting caught up on the yardwork and stuff. :biglaugh:
-
 Send it to me, I’ll finish it, and send pictures back to you! :biglaugh:

A little more testing, pulled 44.51@28 so to check the gain on a 2” pike , I filed nocks for 58” in. That brought it to 51.66 which is about what I expected. A bit more gain than the other d/r bows for a 2” pike.

Will try to find and post the 60" DFC..

28” draw
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Wow thanks for posting that, that curve for that short of bow is awsome , looks like at my 31 in draw the 60'' is the shortest for a great curve that bow looks awsome bend at 28'' did you shoot it yet ?
-
Yep, shot a couple fletched arrows from back porch at 24ish yards. flew funky but hit in a 6" circle on target.
Bare shafted and arrow was way limber, no silencers on it tho. A little twangy, silencers will slow it and finish sanding will take a lb or 2 so it may shoot them just fine....
If it shoots that good when I'm done, the TD may have competition this fall. Both are in my preferred weight...
-
Wondering what a parallel limb with a power lam would do …. dang thinkin anyway :o
-
Only one way to find out ! :archer:
-
Wondering what a parallel limb with a power lam would do …. dang thinkin anyway :o
Wouldn’t those kinda counter each other??? Power lam forcing outer limbs to work more. And parallels making the inner limb work more.
-
Maybe, but looking at the limb ends, I was thinking they would unroll a little more at my draw without a tip wedge...
Not sure if that would help anything but... :)
-
I wonder what would happen if you just skipped the tip wedges if it would have the tip profile like the R/D ,I wonder if one could be made with no PL or tip wedges or no taper on the lams ? :dunno: your right to much thinking darn Disease :goldtooth: [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
-
Man that looks sweet!!!
-
Tip wedges help string angle and lets the limb load a bit quicker on the bottom end. Paralells would make the limb more even all the way out. power lam moves the working part out futher. LET the thinking begin :biglaugh:
-
Yer gonna drive the old coot from Mo crazy..
-
Gonna, he  ll I'm already there!!
-
Hey Kenny sense you opened this can of worms & we never go of topic around here 😃 what do you think would happen to the center bend profile if you skiped the power lam ? Im not talking my current build just future designs ?

-
Very Nice Kenny. Beautiful bow
-
Yellow and brown are good together !!
-
Yer just diggen that Osage wood, hain't cha son?
LOL..
Very nice, Kenny...
-
Heck I can pull it 32" if it don't get hung behind my ear!! See the DFC chart , it slowly starts picking up weight about 30" look s to me..
Mike and Roy , the osage looks great with walnut!
-
Dont pull it behind your ear you will take your ear off...lol I thought you where piking that little girl to 56 ''
-
No, just 58" , think I'd do something diff on taper and riser length for 56, maybe a different form altogether.

Osage is cool...
Now don't be using all my Osage out there son...

-
Nice looking stick Kenny!
That walnut Osage combo is growing on me, good thing I got some Osage riser wood drying in the garage. ;)
What kind of riser length/power lam you using in that kenny?
-
16" riser, using the superlam with 11" of powerlam in it.
I'm getting to like native woods more and more...

Ya kinda lost me there.....So with normal lams, that would be kinda like a 22” powerlam?
And yeah, Might not get as fancy grains and colors, but native woods are so much easier to work and can be just as attractive. (Mostly. Lol)
-
Sorry, yes the super has to be joined in middle of bow so 22" total power lam! :biglaugh:
-
geeze..
powerlams
superlams
whats next
gwass lams?
