Title: 1st wood arrows - nock & grain ??
Post by: BowHuntingFool on March 24, 2008, 11:21:00 PM
Hey guys, my 1st attempt at making some wood arrows. I know there is a certain way to align the nocks according to the grain of the wood for correct spine. How do I do that???? Thanks!

The nock should be oriented so the grain in the shaft(parallel grain lines) will be perpendicular to the bow/side plate.  Or, stated another way, the rift, the Vs you see in the grain on one side of the arrow or the other,  should be on the top and bottom of the arrow when its nocked.  Good luck.

Orion thanks for the quick response, thats why I love this place! I want to put a coat of stain on tonight let it dry and one before I leave for work tomorrow AM! I need to mark the grain for nock orientation before I stain just to be safe! Cheers!

These >>>>>> should point toward your hand (top) when the arrow is in the shooting position. If the arrow breaks it breaks up and away from your bow hand. See Making a Simple Arrow on my site. Jawge
