Title: Weird 'ripple' in limb
Post by: K. Mogensen on July 01, 2018, 04:17:02 PM
Hello again.

I was able to score a second Shakespeare Cascade to replace the one that started to delaminate at the fade.

The one I have now is in excellent condition given its age, and I'm shooting it better than my other bows.

I've noticed that at the upper fade there's some waviness to the glass that stands out in sun light and can be felt. It is very hard to photograph though.

The back of the bow has the worst spot but there's some on the belly in the same area.

There's some finish checking at the edge of the limb in that are as well.

Could this be any sort of problem brewing? I'm still just leery because of its age and length (50").

In my pic I've circled the area and put two lines in line with the two low spots that can be felt.

Without actually seeing the bow it’s hard to say but it’s made it this far, probably won’t give up now.  :)

That's a good point.

I mostly just can't remember if it was there when I got the bow a month ago or not. If it's been there, obviously it's made it this far. If it's new, then I'm nervous.

I really like the bow and the thought of it coming apart just kills me.

If things moved enough to make a ripple, I'd think you could detect some kind of delam on edges?

I bet when they shaped the riser they left some dips.  The glass and lams are just following the flaws in the riser.  If that is the case, the bow should be fine after all these years.

10-4. I'm going to continue to happily shoot it!

Thanks guys.

I had that happen on a bow early on when I used a zip tie to hold the lams in place till I got the form and hose together. I didn’t remove the zip tie  and aired It up . The pressure left a ripple just like that
I no longer use zip ties

crittergetter  I had same problem once with a zip tie, still use them but make sure there are gone before completely airing up.
