Title: Cactus Juice and saw blades

I have a bit of spalted maple I am going to stabilize for riser blocks but I would also like to make some in to veneers. My question is about the veneers, would I be better to cut the veneer then give them a soak or stabilize a stick then cut?

I guess a more pertinent question is, how rough will stabilized wood (Cactus Juice) be on my saw blade?

Not sure why you want to stabilize veneers unless you want color in them.  But do it in stick then cut it. I have used a lot of Cactus juice and it is not hard on blades.

I have heard conflicting stories about spalted maple veneers in reference to stabilize or not. I really wasn't sure which would be best. It sounds like your vote is that it's not needed?

Well I learned something new! Never heard of Cactus Juice, so I looked it up. It's un-polymerized plexiglass.
Plexi is not hard on saw blades, but it does make a static dust mess.

Those veneers would be .030 or thinner (I like .030 ) with glass and glue on on side and core and glue on the other side no need to stablelize. I have seen some burls as veneers now they may need some help.

I resaw stabilized knife scales and I can't tell the difference.
If you think you can sand them into veneers without stabilizing, then don't.

I spent almost the entire day yesterday sawing and sanding veneers. I still need to sand these in the pic but I did decide to go ahead and cut them. All in all I cut 8 pair of birdseye maple, 18 pair of curly make and these spalted maple. These and the birdseye are all book matched and the birdseye is sanded to .035". They are all slated for the trade blanket at ETAR next month.
