I'm not sure if there is a thread started on this or not....but Ron went in for shoulder replacement surgery today. I just got a text from his son....Lobo is out of surgery and in recovery :clapper:
-
When you see him or talk to him tell him Tracey and I are thinking about him and hoping for quick recovery. Also we missed him this past weekend at Compton.
-
Praying for a swift recovery.
-
Hope the heal up is fast and complete!

Best wish for a speedy recovery, yeah I know, it is four to five months until the rut and deer wait for no man. :campfire:
-
Prayers up for Ron. Really enjoyed the time i got to talk with him at Tradfest. He truly is a living legend in our sport and a plethora of information.
Rob..
-
Get well soon Ron
-
Prayers for the nurses too. 😉
Ron looked pretty good sitting up in post op. Hopefully his pain is managed and he gets on the long trail back. Ron says he’s going for a November deer camp target at Shrewhaven
-
Hope he has a speedy recovery! Good to hear the surgery went well.
-
Prayers and good wishes for Ron.

Thoughts & prayers to Ron for a speedy recovery!!
Randy

Wish him a speedy recovery! Back to shootin bows ASAP!
-
Best wishes on a full and speedy recovery.
-
Prayers for a speedy recovery

Ron's replacement is his bow-arm shoulder. I had my bow-arm shoulder replaced in March. I can now shoot a 30 pound bow fairly comfortably. I am targeting being able to shoot my hunting bow comfortably by August or September. I think Ron's November target date is realistic -- very much so.
Best wishes to Ron for a great recovery, rehab and return to hunting bows.
-
morning after and Ron is up and at ‘em with no pain so far but that will probably change he says. He’ll have some opportunity to check in here soon.
-
I just spoke with him. He sounds great, complaining about the food. He said the turkey sausage they fed him smelled like a turkey does when you clean it :o
I will sneak him up some proper vittles soon.
-
Roger, thanks for keeping us informed. Please add my best wishes to Ron and my hope for a speedy and complete recovery.

so I’m guessing a plate of bluegills and hash browns would have gone over a little better?? 😏

Glad Ron is coming along ok..
-
Roger, as was stated, thanks for keeping us in the loop!
-
Ron wishing you a speedy recovery.

Speedy recovery Ron!
Deno
-
Hope ya mend up quickly, Ron.
-
I will keep him in my prayers for a full recovery in record time.
-
Be sure to let Ron know that today, at approximately 15 weeks post shoulder replacement, I managed to shoot one of my hunting bows successfully -- one shot taken, one bullseye. Tell him he now has a time benchmark for his recovery to his first shot with a hunting bow.

👌👌the pressure is on!!!
-
Prayers sent for a full recovery and speedy rehab.
When they did my knee the physical therapist was a cutie and I wasn't going to let her see me backing down.
They probably do that on purpose. ;-)
-
Good luck Ron gets better everyday. I start my pt next week. Best wishes.
-
Prayers for a quick recovery. Heal up Ron, you'll need that shoulder healthy in order to get your buffalo long coat on!
-
Here's to hoping the mend goes as well as the fix! :clapper:
-
Praying for a great recovery!
-
Mend fast Ron! Best wishes. TD.

ive been in rehab for 4 days now and im having very little pain. I think the reason is because of all the prayers sent for me....thank you

Excellent news, Ron. Very excellent news.

Prayers for a speedy recovery Ron

Just another quick update then Ron will be around but he gets released from rehab tomorrow. He said he’s a little ahead of schedule so things are progressing well. He appreciated all the well wishes.

HOME AT LAST
Ten days post surgery, no pain. I only used the ice buddy for two days. The last time I took a pain pill was 24 hrs after the one before.
I've got an appointment with the Surgeon on Monday,I'm anxious to hear what he has to say
-
glad you are home, remember nothing comes easy, especially shoulder rehab :archer:
-
Ron,
I will be 16 weeks post-shoulder-replacement on Monday. I am now shooting a bow that I can hunt with -- 43# at 29" ---- If your healing/strengthening follows the same timetable as mine, you should be able to hunt by November.
I trust that this information will help you make plans for deer season.
It does sound like your recovery has been less painful than mine was. So maybe you will be ahead of my schedule. That would be pretty good.
Joe

12 days since my shoulder replacement
I got home yesterday from the rehab facility. Slept in my own bed...like a baby :)
I have not been having any pain (praise God) I was told the pain would be bad for a couple weeks.
After hospital type food I'm looking forward to a supper tonight of a bear roast with potatoes, carrots and onions
Here's a picture of my little scar, not very big as some other scars I saw

i’m glad you’re doing good buddy. Maybe you should do a little surf and turf Lake Michigan perch and bear roast. Sounds like a winning combination !
-
Ray, you know I love fish for breakfast so the fresh perch fillets and :coffee: will be my morning meal tomorrow. :jumper:
-
Good luck and a speedy recovery Ron! Hope you are back to shooting in no time. Take it easy and enjoy that roast and taters first though! :bigsmyl:
-
That incision site is pretty small compared to mine. I think your recovery is going to move along quickly and smoothly. Did you have any surgery on that shoulder before your replacement?
-
Hoping for a continued speedy a recovery for you Sir.
-
 for quick healing!
-
Enjoy your breakfast Lobo.
-
Did you have any surgery on that shoulder before your replacement?
No I didn't
-
Happy to hear you are doing good Ron. Like you my pain was minimal and I got off the nasty meds in a few days. My surgery was June 5 and I start pt July 5 with what I’m expecting to be more intense movements and light strength training. I have pendulum exercises to do also and my wife helps me with range of motion everyday. Good luck sir glad it’s coming along. John
-
I saw my surgeon today, he said I was doing really good. He showed me some stretching exercises to do at home for the next 4 weeks then I'll be seeing him again to see my progress. He said I didn't need the sling anymore unless my arm got tired and needed a rest. He said I could drive as long as I felt safe and comfortable.
Here's the x-rays they took today.

Speedy recovery Ron.
-
I guess we are all lucky to live during a time when such replacement surgery is not only available, but now fairly routine and with excellent outcomes. Wishing you the very best in your recovery sir.
-
It looks like you are continuing to have an excellent recovery. Well done.
-
Thanks Joe. Today is one month post surgery and everything is going good. As I go about my daily routine I catch myself trying to use my arm for things I shouldn't. I'll be seeing my surgeon again on the 1st of Aug and we'll see what he has to say.
A friend of mine has an old LH 1960 Bear Kodiak that he said he would give me. It's 29#@ 28" a good bow for me to start on when the time comes
-
Great News. Glad the recovery is going well Ron!!!!
-
That bow sounds perfect, Ron. When you get into more advanced physical therapy you will start using stretch cords and light weights. That will help you prepare for starting back with a light bow. I do believe that the light bow work I did helped me move on to a hunting-weight bow.
At this point, I am doing a lot of experimenting with equipment. I want my hunting set up to be as lethal as possible. I am stacking the deck so that I can get the job done consistently with 43 pounds at 29 inches. Most of what I am doing consists of experimenting with arrows to enhance penetration as much as possible.
-
Glad to hear things are going well Ron.
I'm sure you'll be ready by the Shrewhaven hunt!!
Keep up with that PT!!!!
Todd :archer2:
-
Speedy recovery, Ron. Unfortunately we don't heal as quickly as we used to.
-
Unfortunately we don't heal as quickly as we used to.
That's what I hear but that only applies to old people right? :goldtooth:
-
Great to hear you have a bow to start with Ron. Joe is correct in his statement on more advanced therapy. My therapist worked me over real good yesterday and said I’m improving rapidly. Thank goodness I switched to him as my other therapist only planned on every 2 weeks, would’ve put me way behind. I also have a good friend that lent me a Sky 28# target bow to work into. I also have access to some Matthews Genesis bows to start out. I know they aren’t trad but will be for a week or 2. Should be able to shoot a few arrows next week. Keep up the great work, keep us posted and good luck....oh yeah I’m just a young’en 60 years old 😂
-
It's good to read that your recovery continues to go well.
-
I'll be 68 next Saturday. That used to be old but not anymore...at least most of the time that is. :goldtooth:
-
Get well quick !
-
Glad to hear you are coming along Ron.
I'll be driving past Armstrong creek today. Maybe I will see you? Maybe I will just talk to the ghost?
-
Glad that you are doing well Ron. You are a rock, and rocks are very durable. Our prayers are with you. :archer2:
-
I saw my Surgeon today for my 6 week post surgery appointment. They took an X-Ray, checked my range of motion and pronounced me doing very well . He said he didn't think I would need outside therapy and to just continue to do the stretching exercise's I've been doing at home.
I ask him when I could start pulling a bow and also if I could ride my Harley. He told me he would like me to continue to take it easy for another 6 weeks to make sure everything is knit properly. My next appointment is September 12th.

It sure sounds like you are doing great. Keep it up.
-
Good job Ron, it’s a slow process. 👍🏻
-
Bionic Ron! Prayers for your continued healing.
-
It may seem like a long time, but the 6 weeks have gone fast, at least they have for me. Stay the course and you'll be in the woods before long.

Heal fast and prayers sent for good recovery....Dave Paradowski
