Later next week I will start stocking BearPaw clear and Stabilcore. Will be sold custom cut by the inch to save throwing any away .
Prices to follow when shipping is determined.
Thanks ! :notworthy:
Kenny

How will the Bearpaw be priced as compared to the Gordon's product?
-
It will be less, won’t know final pricing til I see shipping costs. Should know about Tuesday.
A side note , I have read you need to add about 5 lb to stack compared to Gordon’s. I will glue up a bow with it when it arrives to test .
-
Will you be selling it by the roll as well?
-
I hadn't considered that yet, but I could I suppose. There is 328' in a roll …...
-
Will you be selling it by the roll as well?
I had been thinking about buying a full roll myself, .040 clear. I seldom use anything but clear and was thinking about buying in bulk to save money.
Kenny, I trust your opinion highly. Do you think the Bearpaw is on par with Gordon's in terms of quality overall, but specifically in terms of durability, consistency, and clarity?
-
Also, what do you think about Stabil core vs uni-weft? I've been using Uniweft and I think it's a great product, but a lot of guys swear by stabil core.
-
Craig, I’ve never used or even had a piece of either to look over. I have had quite a few calls about both from folks wanting both. Pics of bows I’ve seen with the new clear have looked great.
Monterey’s bow with the cracks is the first one I’ve heard of that happening on and I asked the distributor if he had heard of any , he said no.
Sorry no hard facts yet on your question.
-
OK, fair enough. When you get some in stock, I'll place an order and try it out. I don't mind guinea pig duty. :biglaugh:
-
Guinea pigs have more fun! :bigsmyl:

Been using the clear for awhile now. Dont know if I noticed quite a 5 lb. difference maybe 2 or 3. It is very clear. I have two bows with stable core. One longbow and one recurve. Noticed a lot of difference in the curve. A good person to ask about weight differences would be Bob at Sarrels archery.
I am sure it does not hurt longbows but not as noticeable.
-
I figured the stabilcore would help a bow with radical hooks more than a gentler curve on a longbow.
Bob posted on a thread on FB that he was on roll 5 of clear Bearpaw and wouldn't use anything else.
-
:biglaugh: Appropriate for many reasons. Not the least of which is that I frequently wear a hat very similar to this one.

Have glass cutting table set up except building 2 drawers

Well going to have to try some of that.
-
Dang..
I may have to try a gwass bow build:)
-
OK, just send the Osage back and I’ll hook ya up! :biglaugh:
-
And there is a charge for wiping drool off returned lumber....
-
Awesome, less components I need to get from another vendor!
-
I dunno...
May have to think about that one...
-
You could always have an assistant wipe off the drool and pack it for you. :)
-
lol !!

I may be interested in some glass. I've been putting off buying any, waiting for quality issues to 'clear up'. Since I prefer working on wooden bows anyhow, it doesn't take much to dissuade me from buying glass to begin with, throw in a streak or two, and I'm out. But I'm ready to redesign my longbow profile again and I think I have like just two or four pieces of glass left.
-
Hmmm... So, like 27-28 bows in a roll.
Man, a 328' roll of glass. Imagine if that thing got away from ya and sprung open in the shop like a giant itchy spider web :o
-
Yep Jeff, it would be like a big spring coming off that coil. I have a containment plan,if it doesn't work, the shop will be a bad place to be when I cut the last coil fastener!! :biglaugh:
-
I'd love to be there ifin it happens..
-
Keep an eye on ole Roy, curiosity may make him cut the bands!
-
Not me..............
LOL
-
What widths will you have available? 1 1/2", 1 3/4", and 2"? Just clear, or black as well. Someone was telling me that Bearpaw doesn't manufacture 1 1/2" glass. That doesn't make any sense.
-
My first order was 1.5 and 1.75 crystal clear and stabilcore which is all 1 7/8” wide I believe. Probably metric on the stabilcore ?
I sell very very little 2” so probably won’t get that for a bit.
-
Yup, the stabilcore is 1.88". I only have enough for one bow right now.
-
Not familiar with Stabilcore, is it a carbon fabric, prepeg strip?
-
Here is what Bearpaw says about it. I haven't used it but will be trying it soon...
Stabil-Kore is a light weight core material which gives bow limbs lateral and torsion rigidity. Stabil-Kore is a proprietary composite that can be used as an alternative to carbon to increase efficiency and add multi-directional attributes, reinforce limbs, increasing cast, and eliminating nearly all lateral twisting for better in-line recovery and more energy down range. Stabil-Kore is sanded on both sides and is used as a core material and can be used with carbon laminations.
-
I’m curious how it’s physical weight compares to fiberglass and some of the common core woods.
-
More redneck testing may be required!
-
I'd love to be there ifin it happens..
I just saw this, pops! 328' would make several laps around my shop! Where would you stand to cut? In the middle? :o
-
The stabilcore is very light. Only .016 thick. I have used it in five RD bows and while I can't attest to ALL of bearpaw's claims I'll say that it improves stability considerably. If you are careful with the center line you can narrow the tips quite a bit and still maintain excellent stability.
I haven't used it in an ASL because I don't feel like that style bow will benefit but I'm ready to find out that I'm wrong (again :) ).
-
I'll add that it's easy to cut with high quality scissors.
-
This will be the BearPaw glass test bow, Bocote riser and aboo cores with Bocote veneers. Riser will have phenolic and a wave in it... (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180619/1cb47219127b47334becc3a27279ff33.jpg)

Kenny are you going to increase the stack by the thickness of the SK or reduce the other core materials by the thickness of the SK?
For thems what are curious, this is what it looks like.

Mike, this one is just to see diff in glass between the two. I've heard from heavier to 5# lighter...
I'm thinkin each set of lams may be different even from the same board, you might get more pressure at glue up for a thinner glue line, and different width on limbs by a few thou could all change the outcome.
I'm just finding out if there is any glaring difference. :)
When I try the SK, I will reduce stack by .016 since it's sposed to be stiff!
-
Looking forward to seeing your results.
-
Pops huh?
Ya want me to bring back the thumpin list, sonny boy?
I would stand at the door and video the theascial....
Then post it in here...
-
Considering the many test bows you have built, like the one your about to try, I gotta ask what are you doing with all those bows?? There has to be a page somewhere where test bows are sold to recover cost. Roy ain’t buying them there gwass bows but others may.
-
Tony, don't have much prob getting them gone. Buddies, archery orgs , and such. Easier to give away than a free hat! :biglaugh:
-
"I would stand at the door and video the theascial...."
