Slooow down!!
Excellence can’t be rushed. Lol

Whats the riser wood? The moldy bocote will look great with that!
-
Riser looks like black walnut marinated in old coors for 6 months..
Or could have been rum and coke, not sure...
-
It has a bocote ish grain pattern, but looks to be slimed with sumpin… Maybe Pabst and cracker crumbs.... :biglaugh:
-
Maybe Lonnie was stabalizing it, stableizing it, ah hell however ya spell dat Missouri werd for maken your wood harder..
Help me out Kenny.. Whats ya call that?
-
Think it would have to be blue! :)
-
Moldy? Maybe I better throw it out and get some fresh. :scared:
-
That’s a strange technique. Def not how I make my wood harder. :dunno:
And Pretzels go better with Pabst.
I changed my mind Lonnie.
Hurry up and build the bow. Cuz this thread is is going waaay to south waaay to fast

I finally got a chance to do some dry runs and I am pretty happy with it. Now if I can get life to stop taking up all my time I might be able to glue it up. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Looks very nice, Lonnie.

Definitely ready for glue. Be careful about spilling beer in the glue. Makes it craze. :)

Well don’t start screwing up now. Cuz you’ve still got more of your part to do.
Looking good so far

Looking good. Lonnie...

Baby steps Bob, baby steps.... :readit:
Still no complaints. In fact I wish to highlight the quality products that KennyM provides, outstanding, thank you Kenny.
I did notice that my scarf joint on the bamboo could use a lot of work but I had to really search to see where I joined the backing veneers, and I knew where it is.

Nice! My scarf joints suck. :(
-
Lonnie, that is looking great, great glue lines!!

What weight is that gonna be?
-
I had to measure everything to figure it out (I couldn't remember). Per your plans it should be 50-55 but I tend to end up narrower than the prescribed 1.5". I am hoping to end in the 50-ish arena.
-
Looks GREAT !! :clapper: Take your time or you'll end up with firewood like that old fart you know :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
Hey hey hey now , which ol fart??
-
YA...
Which ole fart?
-
I am glad some others spoke up, I was starting to feel a bit old.
-
Can’t be you Roy.
He didn’t say GRUMPY old fart :biglaugh:
-
Whew...
I feel better now..
:biglaugh:
-
I ended up on mine at 1 3/8 in. Wide Lonnie it didnt seem to effect draw weight on mine from what Kenny guessed more then a pound or two Im guessing might have even made the bow a little faster your looks really nice cant wait to see it strung and finish on !

The work week is done, two ladies almost fully moved, the wife is off to work and finally some quality time in the shop. I have the basic limb profile done and so far it seems to be tracking pretty true to center. I did however find a crack in the glass that concerns me and I would greatly appreciate the opinions that make this place great.
Am I defeated before I really get rolling?

Lonnie, those look just like the ones that I had in TG swap bow #1.
Not sure I have a picture of it on the phone.

Those look pretty much the same, in the pic mine looks like a scuff but in the right light you can definitely see it's a crack. I noticed a couple of others before I profiled it but they were on the edge and got sanded off.
Is the bow still usable like this or is it destined for spontaneous disassembly?
-
Dang! Can you catch a fingernail on it? Wondering if its a glass flaw or a crack...
It wouldn't happen to line up with the washers on sides of form? I had them too tight once and the glass couldn't lay down. Didn't crack it but made a fat spot in the limb at 2 of them.
If its a crack you can catch a nail on, I would try to get some glue in it, won't be easy. What part of limb? Bending or not ?
-
I can’t catch a nail it and it’s right at 5” off the fade on the bendy part. Not sure about the washer part but it’s a good posibility. I will keep an eye on it see what happens. Other than that it’s bending nicely on the tree and in the area of 48ish at 24-25”. I may have to take it down some, I ain’t as good as I once was.
-
If you narrow it up more, any chance it would be close enuff to the edge to trap it out? Trapping usually loses 3-4 lb for me. Might end up light....
-
I've been shooting mine and so far no problems. I look at it occasionally for changes in appearance. So far no change.
What kind of glass did you use? What kind of form?
Mine was a rubber band form with new thinner pressure lams. They had the rope Down the center but maybe were too thin along the edges allowing a roll over effect?
-
It is pretty close to the edge so thinning and trapping might work. I would hate to go light but better light than broke.
It's an air hose form, glass bedding with steel pressure strips and Gordon glass. Kenny mentioned earlier about the washers being too tight, mine are made of wood (epic fail BTW) but they still could have been too tight, I hadn't really considered that would be an issue until he said that.
