I just bought a Hill style long bow and I need to get a string for it. I always have shot recurves and am not sure if the length is the same. do I go for a 4 " shorter than the bow length or is it 3 " shorter. the bow is 66 " long. I'll be buying a dacron string if that matters.
Thanks
I make mine 4" shorter. Dacron will stretch more, so you will have to do some twisting after shooting a bit. Hope this helps, and enjoy the longbow!
I have a 66" Howard Hill the string is 63" and brace is 7 1/4 and is a tack driver! I use B 50 on all my strings Good Shooting Mike
I have a couple of 66-inch Hills. Strings are closer to 62 inches. Brace heights are 6 5/8 to 6 3/4.
That long bow will be a far cry from those Silvertips.
Just checked my Hills again. When I take the strings off the bows and squeeze the loops straight in line with the string, they're 63 inches. Dacron will stretch more than a fast flite material, but most string makers will take that into account when they make the string. If it stretches to a little long, can always just give it a few more twists. Have fun. Will be quite a difference.
thanks guys, I'll get a couple of them ordered tonight. Warden, I know, I've already shot the bow before I owned it this fall. The fellow that sold it to me is still laughing from watchingme shoot it. Its kinda like a personal challange now, I'm gonna shoot that rascal :)
thanks again, Billy
WARNING you will fall in love with a longbow and never look back.
