Post by: iboshooter on March 22, 2008, 11:49:00 AM
I plan on chasing elk this fall with my stickbow and Me and a friend are packing in and camping for at least 7 days. I want to purchase a external frame pack but dont really know what size I should buy any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Get a big one. If you are lucky enough to pack out an elk, hind quarters weigh about 100 pounds on a decent bull.

There are a lot of good packs available.  A rather inexpensive tubular frame pack is something called the Alaska pack/frame.  Believe Cabelas sells it for about $130.  Gets the job done for me.  There a lot of better packs out there, (more versatile and comfortable) but they'll be quite a bit more expensive as well.  Good luck.

I personally use the Alaskan/outfitter pack It's HUGE, Plus the pack comes off the frame and can be used separately. Then the frame can be used sep. to pack out meat.
