I am going to order a kit for a hickory/boo longbow. I can build strings, any arrow, and make fletching so I figure it’s time to build a bow too. Is there anyone here who might be willing to share their number with me so I could call and pick your brain or get some advice. Maybe even someone local? I’m in the greater St Louis area. Thanks guys!

I have only made one bamboo hickory bow ,but I would suggest picking up a copy of the late Dean Torges DVD Hunting the bamboo backed bow ,I pretty much built this one from watching it ,he walks you threw every aspect of building one and it would probably answer 95 % of your questions its a easy to watch DVD and he exsplains things in a hands on view [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nice lookin' bow, Yellowwood!!
To my "not-an-expert-by-any-stretch" eyes, the tiller looks great!
Who/where are you ordering your kit from, Jakeemt??

Thanks, I didn't order a kit I had a winter cut hickory stave that was air dried for a couple of years that I milled up for lams & I got my bamboo from Echo Archery , these bows are pretty much like any other lam bow the success is in the details of the build ,taper & glue up etc ,if built right they take very little time to tiller but they are really nice smooth shooting bows , I would highly recommend Deans vid it would save you a lot of time ! Plus these bows are pretty fast for a natural bow the one shown is 48 lb @31 and is pushing a 520 grain arrow at 173 fps after shoot in .

Wow, that sounds like a GREAT bow!!
Hope you have fun makin' yours, and that it's every bit as fast, and durable!
I tried to find the Torges DVD, and struck out. :dunno: That DVD has been recommended more than once here.....
Thanks, Yellowwood!!!
