Title: 60 year Osage cracking.
Post by: earnestsix on May 07, 2018, 11:10:57 AM
I've got really twisted staves out of this,  and have cracked it after dry heat bending. I guess I cooked the wood to long. I have several good bows made out of younger wood.  My question, is older tree wood more prone to cracks when heat straighting.

Where did it crack and how where you trying to bend it?  Can you post a picture of the cracked area?

Where was it stored?  Just because a stave is seasoned for years it can still hold excess moisture from the RH that it is stored in.
