But first of all, there was a glass bow guy in my shop today, building a wood bow.
This is TradBowyer, prepping his hickory, walnut, hickory bow.
Then I started my yew, yew, boo r/d.
Canopyboy, Dave, gifted me a pair of awesome yew billets.
And fujimo gifted me more yew billets.
Z splice
Thinning belly lams.
Z splice drying and good beer.
-
The yew core lams on the right in the above picture, with the knot holes.
That is nothing to worry about. They are filled with smooth on now, and will be sandwiched between the boo backing and the belly lam, in the center of the grip, inside a 13 inch riser....
-
COOL!!
:archer:
-
I guess it's ok..
:biglaugh:
-
Looking pretty good. And a better class of beer to boot, things are looking up for ya Roy. :clapper:
-
Thanks John..
Only problem is, that beer is $33.00 a case..
I buy it every now and then..
-
Great start bud! But I’m bettin a couple of those beers and he will have Chris help him order some glass....
-
$33.00 a case!!! To rich for my blood. Ill just wait for the fruit to get ripe, few bucks for some yeast and sugar, the sky wont be the only thing lit up on the fourth round here. I'm speaking of wine, perfectly legal.
-
Nice Roy. Did you go thicker on the Yew than you normally would do for osage? Supposedly a great bow wood, I never worked with it. Don't see many yew trees in the swamp....lol
And I don't know about that Shandy. It rhymes with panty and it has lemonade in it??? I rather my beer taste like beer....
-
No, I made the belly 1/4" like the osage..
Might make this bow a tad wider than 1.25...
How bout sending me a 6 pack of yer beer so I can test it? :wavey:
-
I would do that, but I would be too scared you would dump it down the drain. None of my beers have the word light behind them...pale ales, IPA's, stouts, German style, I like them all as long as they don't taste like water or lemonade :biglaugh:
-
You trying to make the thumpin list?
LOL
-
Yeah you might as well put me on there....I figured it was only a matter of time...lol
-
LOL..
Well you are # 2 on the list.
A certain ole guy from Linneus , Mo. has had the top spot for a long time...
Order glass?
Ya right... LOL
-
Starting another bow already??
Did I miss the finished pics of the BWO bow?
-
Nope, haven't finished it yet..
-
Is there such a thing as 'list seniority', if so, I think I've been on it longer than any of you greenhorns. Roy, I think it's high time we get this butt-whoopin' behind us. Let's meet at a neutral site, halfway.... say.... Saw Sales in Gibsonia? :smileystooges: :deadhorse:
-
When?
:deadhorse:
-
Next week. Second tuesday. :shaka: :clapper: :biglaugh:
-
Roy is marking that day on calendar, so he don't forget
-

-
wadda those small numbers on the ruler?
you guys know how to use em
-
NOPE:)
-
What woods are in your riser? Guessing the middle wood is maple, but I can't quite tell what the outer wood is (kind of looks like padauk?).
Otherwise, looking good so far!

Core wood is curly maple.
Darker wood is Jatoba, a Brazilian Cherry.

Thanks Ty.
I think they will look good together too..
The two yew billets Canopyboy sent me, "are the most awesome", cleanest, knot free, yew billets I have ever seen. ANYWHERE!
I've had them for about a year now, and have had yew billets from Fujimo for about 5 years now.
I am excited about building this bow....
-
Well finally got the bow tillered.
Looks pretty sweet.
Had trouble blending in the end of the riser, the wood kept flaking off when it got thin.
Then discovered the end of the riser glue joint was loose.
Think I used a soft maple instead of a hard maple. DUH dammit!
So I removed the riser with a putty knife and gotta glue on another one, and it's gonna be Osage this time....
See Johnny, you are not the only one who screws up..

Yew got to be kidding me...Roy made a mistake??
-
No..
It was an accident..

Lucky that you mixed both components of the EA40 from hardener cans, otherwise might not have scraped off so easy. :biglaugh:
-
LOL but it was unibond.
-
Yep, I just tossed one that bent exactly like that. On one limb anyway.
-
Are you ever gonna finish one of these bows? Lol
Looking good ol’ timer👍🏻
-
Are you ever gonna finish one of these bows?
Having a new puppy in the house and other outdoor jobs needing done, I've had little time for bow work..
But someday:)
-
Lookin’ good Roybert. Take your time. It took me two years to send you those billets once I cut em out and set them aside.
