I would like to get some input as far as a "Classic" wood combination of Riser and Limb Laminations for a 50's style recurve.
I will be building a bow, with the guys in Minnesota at Holm-Mades Bow Build weekend, and am starting to think of wood combinations.
If we're talking Bears, most of 'em were plain maple risers with maple limbs. The Kodiaks had a darker accent wrapping the riser
Here's a '58 Alaskan (the 58 Grizz is the same, just a single shelf)

Then you have the 1959 Bears:

Here's the '59 Grizzly and a '57 Kodiak Special

Oh Man....
That is quite a collection...
Get a hold of JavaMan...he did one a couple years ago for the Michigan Bowhunters Banquet and it was GOURGEOUS. I can't remember the woods, I just remember it going for MUCH more than I was able to give in the auction.
classic designs with more 'modern wood' combos.
Ebony and Bocote
Wenge and Purpleheart

Nice looking lumber you got there Jeremy! How many # is the '59 Kodiak?
I would get one all Grey Actionwood! Just kiddin' Mitch [I really would though]. Joe, those two bows of yours are beauts! Is the top one a Saxon Kadiak? Mitch I think a dark rosewood would look great Hey see if JD would do brown glass!
top is a mcllough 59'r........bottom is a holcomb 'hybrid' based on the 59 kodiak.
Yew wood or Red Elm for limbs....something dark in riser...Bubinga???? :)oh yeah, you LUCKY DAWG..good luck buddy! Mark#78
Two awesome bows Joe!
I like the looks of the '62 Grizz too... walnut with zebrawood ibeam

Thanks guys for the ideas, I can't wait for the Bow Building weekend that Holm-Made is so generously putting on...
Make sure you don't use those Poison Oak Veneers Mitchell!
