Who knows anything about Bob Morrison bows? I hear that he makes A+ quality bows and are considered elite. Yes? I am looking at his custom bows (there are about 6 types) but to be honest, I cannot seem to tell any difference in the bows other than name. How does one go about choosing the right custom bow by Morrison if none of the bows give any specs and differentials from one bow costing $1,000 to another costing $700? Is the most expensive really worth the extra green or should one go with a lesser costing bow by Bob? What's y'alls inputs on his bows? Which ones do y'all own, have tried, etc? Reviews/Thoughts?
The best advice I can give you is to talk to Bob. I understand your confusion about the offerings onsite, but talking to Bob about what you want in a bow will allow him to guide you to the one that will suit you best.
They are expensive.
Go to some trad shoots this spring and summer, and look for Morrison bows to try out, preferably with the style grip you prefer. You may not like them. If you are a lucky soul, you will like something that costs considerably less! :D
I like them. Dammit.
I don't know how many bows you have shot, but it may take a heap of trying all different kinds before you find one that justifies that kind of investment. Took me nearly forty years.
Killdeer :wavey:
I agree with Killie. If it doesn't suit you it isn't worth any amount of money...if it is the righteous shooting bow of your dreams it is! I was cursed with loving them too. But everytime I pull it out and feel that grip and shoot an arrow it is all worthwhile!
Bob's bows are certainly at the top of the class, no doubt about that. The biggest difference in the prices is going to be in the woods and options that are on a particular bow. Bob makes some of the nicest looking bows anywhere, but he also makes some more basic models. If looks are important, things like limb veneers, two tone risers, stripes, checkered grips, snakeskins, take down models, etc, etc. all add to the cost.
Will the $1,000 bow shoot any different than the $700 bow? Other than differences in the limb core materials, I don't think you could tell the difference in how a basic bow shoots versus a really fancy one.
Great bows with some serious power. I have or have had some fancy ones and some plain Jane. They're all good. Here are some pics of a few of-um.

Call Bob and talk with him about what you are looking for. Then see if he has a bow or bows in your draw lenght and weight that you can test drive. This is one sure way of knowing you are getting a bow you will enjoy.
Also I recommend getting the half or full pinecones. It costs a little extra but well worth it IMHO.
Yaz,
It won't matter which one you order. If you buy the fanciest one first you'll want a plane one for draggin through the mud. If you buy the plane one first you'll eventually want the snake skins and fancy stuff. Nobody does snake skins like Bob. Best part about it is one can never have enough Morrison's and once you have shot one and dealt with Bob you will know what we mean. They all shoot extremely well and you won't find a better guy than Bob to deal with. So just dial 1-740-587-0368 and gettr done!
I am anxiously awaiting a set of Cheyenne limbs for a riser I picked up myself. Won't be able to shoot them for at least a month but I can stare and dream. lol
I shot one this past weekend and its the first time in over thirty years that I felt I really wanted to buy something other than the old Bear TDs and Super Ks I've always shot. The bows look great, feel great, and shoot hard, IMO. Looks like I have one in my future if I can get Bob to accomodate a couple little quirks in my shooting setup that I'm too old to change. Grant
Great bows you can't go wrong with a Morrison!
Great Bows! I have owned several of Bob's Bows and only have great things to say about his bows and Bob. Yes, they are pricey but they are great performers, smooth, fast, easy to shoot , and very well made.
Have never owned a Morrison or for that matter shot one, but have seen a few. Terry Green owns a Cheyanne recurve with an "A" riser and "C" limbs. It is one of the best looking recurves I've ever seen. He gave me a chance to shoot it on the Solana hunt, which I politely refused. I'm not as dumb as I look. If I had shot the darn thing I would have had to order one immediately and I've decided to stick with my Massie long bows and use my expendable cash to buy hunts, not bows. As for Bob's bows being expensive, you get what you pay for and they seem to hold their value fairly well. I have to agree with KillDeer, shoot as many bows as you can to determine exactly what you want, then call Bob. His bows are great, but his customer service is second to none. Good luck.
His least expensive recurve (Cheyenne model) is, by my figuring, at least $900, and that would be about as plain as a bow can be. If you are going to get one, go for it and get the works! He makes eye-candy that stacks up to anyone's, so might as well drop a few extra hundred and get a nice one. Snakeskins would be a must for me if I got one of his bows, as he does the best skins I've seen. I would definitely shoot a few if I could before plunking down that kind of cash. As with any bow, you may like it, and you may not, but he does make nice bows that perform with any bows out there. Good luck, Paul.
Bob is one of the most innovative bowyers out there. The old adage you get what you pay for rings true for Bob's bows. I have been lucky to get one his new shawnee dakota longbows with the new carbon/foam limb. It is a 45 bow, 60 inch longbow which at my 27 inch draw length shoots right up there with any 50 lb plus bow. What is particluarly unique with this new limb material combination is the stablitiy and unique smoothness of this limb design. I have owned dakotas, cougars, earlier recurves, cheyennes to name a few. It is one of the best shooting and most accurate shooting bows that Bob has produced to date. I am afraid to shoot a cheyenne with this limb combination or an ILF. Expensive yes, worth every penny...without a doubt.
The best of the best. I have a Cheyenne that is almost too pretty to hunt with.....almost. Smoothest drawing, fast, quiet, good looking, you really get what you pay for. If I could do it over, I'd go with
Bob's base model so I wouldn't feel guilty about the little dings that I know she's gonna have soon. I'm not gonna baby her though. If the snakeskins fall off or fade, oh well. I know folks who've had snakeskins on their limbs for goin' on ten years, huntin' in the rain and all, so I'm not gonna sweat it. Good luck pickin' one out.
I really like the looks of the new foam core Cheyenne limbs with a Heritage walnut dymonwood riser. Should be a quiet and rugged hunting bow that you aren't scared to get all dinged up...Mike
Somebuddy say something nasty just to keep the prices in line! We all keep talking like this Bob's gonna up the rates. :biglaugh:
I've just ordered another one. Bob if your reading this package coming soon, I was trying to get south of border last week to ship it but that didn't work.
I have a Cheyene that I will never get rid of and have had three Shawnee's with dakota limbs. Love them all, but like the short Cheyene best. you can not go wrong with one of Bob's bows.
I sold my fancy Shawnee Dakota limbs cause Bob's new foam core limbs are the smooothest limbs I've ever shot on a 3 piece bow! I don't need pretty anymore! Well maybe some skins on black limbs is better camo...that's just practical not fancy :) Doc

Tippit hit it! But I'm not even gonna put skins on mine cause it shoots so well I wouldn't change a thing. Ask me 6 months ago and there were no other bows other than a Morrison Cheynne. I had a Shawnee but just never clicked with me....Bob convinced me to try the new foam/carbon Dakota limbs before I sold it and voila! All the cheyennes are for sale. Just got my heavier set of Dakotas today...ready for thick critters now. My son's Shawnee foam/carbon dakota should be here next week...my new riser in a few months (after the wood is dry).
And Tippit, I see you qualified it as "on a 3pc bow"....you know Bob is now doing the foam on his 1pc don't you? :saywhat:
I have the Cheyenne and the Shawnee and they are both lousy. They are ugly, shoot crooked and make noises.
Sorry guys (and Killy) I can't do it. Yazoo, these are some of the best bows you will have in your hand. I've been a pain in Bob's a** ever since I shot my first one. I'm awaiting my foam core Arapho's right now. Man I can't wait. I'm already thinking about my next order. Unless Killy will sell me that riser of hers. Bobs skins are 2nd to NO ONE! His customer service is right with his skins. Ask Novelli about the fever, once you touch one, it's over!
JC,
Did you send Bob that block of wood you have been holding onto. I can't wait to see it finished!
It's taken me a long time to pay it off but I will soon be the proud owner of a Bob Morrison ILF. I got an all phenolic riser, black epoxy finished limbs(black on black) for an inside a Double Bull blind bow. I can hardly wait. I had to sell my 1966 Kodiak to finish paying this bow off but I know it will be worth it.
You wont regret it C2.
Mike, you mean this one?

:bigsmyl:
I had them ship it directly to Bob's shop...when the moisture is right, he's going to do a Shawnee with midnight dymondwood center, this black and white ebony for the outsides. You can bet I'll post pics...should be a stunner.
JC, Dang, wish you hadn't reminded me about those Bow Bolt/Foam Cores  tippit
Happy to help brother....maybe you'll have to sell that ol junky drake to pay for one  ......I CALL DIBS!
Thats it JC. I cannot wait to see that one!
JC that wood looks like it will provide a natural "predator" camo! That ought to be quite stunning...for our eyes and critters you shoot!
For my 2 cents worth.
I have shot most of his bow models and the craftsmanship is excellent. His bows are very effecient and, as such, top quality.
The question remains; Is it the best bow for you? You will have to shoot one to find out.
I was hell bent on ordering one, but after shootng them on 4 or 5 occasions I decided they weren't the right bow for me. Just didn't feel right for some reason. Very accurate and very quiet, but didn't feel right somehow.
I did wind up feeling very comfortable with a different bow and was fortunate that it was significantly cheaper.
Just my opinion,
Charlie
Charlie is correct...if you have not shot it, you really should. I wouldn't buy any bow without shooting a representative model first.
I SHOT 1 OF HIS ILF TD BOWS AT PITT, DAM THERE NICE!1 AN LUCKY ME, BLESS MY WIFE WITH A LITTLE WINE SHE BOUGHT ME 1 AT THE LADIES AUCTION. WHAT A HELL OF A SUPRISE!! I CAN`T WAIT TILL IT GETS HERE. SOUNDS LIKE THEY R GOOD BOWS!!
Just got my new Cheyenne with foam core limbs and OH MY! I can't quit shooting it. Been used to shooting longbows of the high performance variety, not mentioning any brand but this Cheyenne has upped my 3d scores 20 points. Those foam core limbs are the smoothest drawing, shooting limbs I've ever shot. You gotta shoot one and check it out for yourself, you'll be amazed. ~Rich~
I totally agree Rich! Sure feels good in the hand with them on the riser too.
My first Morrison is coming soon, foam core limbs, I can hardly STAND it! This thread is making it worse. (The only good thing is that I haven't been thinking about September as much, but when I get the bow Elk fever will return tenfold!)
Every bow feels different to each individual. My best advise is to shoot every bow that you can get a hold of and see which one of those speak to you.
With that said then you need to shoot a Morrison.
I have shot a lot of bows and and had a lot that spoke to me but I finally found one that yelled at me. Sold all my bows except my Zipper to get one of Mr. Morrison's bows and no regrets what so ever....Smooth,fast, dead in the hand and quiet. Accurate, Yes. Carbon, foam and skins. ILF Mini 14". I'm drawing around 27.5" with a 54" longbow limbs and smooth all the way.

(OK, Bob where's my 5 bucks...)
God Bless, Pierre
pierre that is one fine ILF .morrison is at thetop of "my HAVEtoHAVE" list
I have/had several of Bob's bows my favorite model I have owned so far has been the Cheyenne Recurves in 54" and 56". I have one of each right now carbon/foam limbs to save time I will say I haven't owned a recurve that shoots as fast or quiet myself.
Well, I think everyone has been right on cue. I have about seven of Bobs bows and for some odd reason want to order another one. If JC has anymore of that black and white ebony or where I can get some let me know. I'm fortunate enough to be able to harass Bob in person and he is one of the honest and sincere bowyers out there.
Patrick ??
Just saw on page 2 where someone mentioned Novelli....I realized I had not seen him here in a while. Anyone know whats up? Not that I'm complaining, as his absence has allowed a few of us to acquire some really nice Morrison's. He did however, seem like a nice guy with a real passion for Bob's Bows.
I'm really lucky at this time, as I have 3 of Bob's bows....the Shawnee/Dakota sure put an end to my search for... "The Bow"... for me. :wavey:
gene,
Novelli is no longer welcome on this site. Terry removed him about a month ago.
talk to bob for the best answers, shoot as many as you can get your hands on and i can say his bows are worth every penny i will never part with my cheyenne!
Until my first Morrison I thought there were just too many excellent bows out there to have more than one by any one bowyer.
bob is an honorable man and makes a fantastic bow.the more i talk to bob on the phone the more i like him.tells it like it is.cant believe how fast my cheyenne shoots my 650 gr arrows.
I love Bob's bows, Carbon Foam Dakotas are my favorite, but also like the Arapaho limbs for the Shawnee. I've also got a soft spot for the Cougar...

I have several of Bob's bows and can not say enough about the them. They are works of art as well as amazing hunting weapons. Plus, Bob is a top notch human being who treats every person who calls him as though they are the most important priority he has. You can not go wrong if you buy one of his bows.
Claudia
Hard to go wrong with a Morrison. I have several as well.
Yep....I've got 4 morrisons....Original TD....Shawnee....Cheyenne and a Cougar.
The prettiest bow I own is a Morrison....just not sure which one it is. :D :D :D

Cheyenne with "C" Osage limbs
16" ILF with foam/carbon limbs
Beautiful bows and great shooters as well!
i think you need help bowhunter4life......help shootin all those morrisons.lol....maybe you should just mail me a couple of those.you have too many and i'll gladly help you take care of a few. :bigsmyl: :D :D
Proud owner of 3 m'self. A Cheyenne, Shawnee & ILF.
Only problem with 'em is that it'll stop you ever wanting to own or shoot anything else.
Ever.
:goldtooth:
Wish I had 6 arms so's I could shoot 'em all together.
Geez Jeff, it took you long enough to show your collection!!! :bigsmyl:
I have several, a 16", 18", and 20" ILF risers with three sets of carbon foam long bow limbs. And I wouldn't mind trying some recurve limbs. I also wouldn't mind owning a carbon foam 64" Dakota either.
I have two Morrisons and a rack full of others. Bob makes one of the best quality bows but aesthetics, fit, etc. are very personal. I agree that the best test is shooting one. Bob is extremely helpful before and after purchasing.
This one started in 2008 I hope he's found one and decided by now!
I own just one Morrison. A shawnee A riser/F limbs.
Really a shooter and i like it. (on left)

I am now the proud owner of an ILF with Bob's carbon foam limbs(Changed my life, lol)and a Shawnee with Arapoho limbs and a set of Dakotas on the way.The Morrisons are the bows that i've been looking for over the years with their flexibilty of changing limbs and fitting my grip just right.Hats off to the Morrisons....
I nabbed this carbon/foam Dakota at Baltimore this year. 46 at my draw, and 56" long.
Now... heeeere snaky snaky snaky!
