Title: What short T/D recurves will handle a long draw length??
Post by: Matt / PA on March 18, 2008, 07:46:00 PM
I'm really interested in picking up a shorter T/D recurve for blind hunting mostly, preferably in the 54-58" range even though I know it's not "ideal" for me.

I'm 6'3" and draw and honest 30" and change to the back of the riser on my Black Widow SA

So against everyone's better judgement can anyone suggest a specific "shorty" 3 piece that will handle that draw length without hitting a brickwall and without endangering the limbset?
I have 60-64" bows but really want to own a short one.
I know it probably won't feel as comfy as my longer bows but I just want a good quality bow that will do it, quietly and without completely stacking out on me that I can use in just about any blind I find myself in........ones to keep an eye out for?
Should I just hold out for a set of 58" Widow limbs?

I already struck out on a nice little Morrison Shawnee 56" 50#/28" that I just picked up here, and after stringing it and talking with Bob I think it's best that I don't try to turn that one into a 30" shooter.        Feels like I can yank the limbs right off it, and Bob said I WILL damage the limbs eventually.......eventually meant could be 2 shots, could be 10,000.

Tell me they all won't feel that way?   :knothead:

Thanks guys!

Matt, I test drove a 58" Widow PSA and though my draw is "only" 29 I was able to comfortably pull it to 31".  Is it your best bet?  Who knows, but you already have the riser just need to find that elusive set of limbs.  I still think you'd be able to shoot that 62" widow out of the blind, though.  I used my 62 PSAIII and PSAV out of an Ameristep blind (67" center height) last season...Mike

T/D? Well RER with its static limbs will do it at 30"s and a 58" bow and I am sure some others, the Widow will do it also, but if you are blind hunting and have lots of time to manuever a 60 or 62" would be fine. I have shot quite a few 60-62"ers out of a DB. Shawn

Mike,
Elusive they are.......Seems like everybody and their grandmother is looking for 58" limbs in a 50ish ## weight.

But boy I really like the thought of a 56" bow. I just don't think realistically it's going to happen.

See us long draw length guys don't have ALL the advantages.   :smileystooges:

Hey Matt, I think you might be able to shoot a 56-58" Fedora 560 TD with his tournament limbs. Give them a call.....717-933-8862.

What about the Whisperstick 56".  I have a 60" that is my new favorite and it's smooth far beyond my 30" draw.  I think he might have or going to have a domo floating around.  Whisperstick is a sponser check em out and give JD a call.  You will not be dissapointed.
