Title: Pittsley predator
Post by: bowdude on February 09, 2007, 03:53:00 PM
For those of you who have shot them how are they?  Any one ever compare them to a super kodiak?  I was wanting a take down version but not the bear take down.

I like mine.  There is variability in the girth of the handle among the risers out there.  I was lucky enough to get a thinner one. Feels awesome.   A friend got one that was thicker and neither of us liked it.

They all shoot great and the limbs are interchangeable so you can get more in the future without having to have them fitted to the riser.

The riser is built from heavy materials and is substantial, but feels good.   The bow puts out a very fast arrow, is quiet and I don't detect any hand shock.

I think you can do far worse.   Personally, although I really like the look of the older Super Kodiaks, I would take the Predator over a SK any day.

I want a takedown that shoots identical within my abilities anyway of my super kodiak.  Bought a Chek-mate falcon a while back and I can pick either one up with the same arrows and be "on".  I also tried a PSE coyote and while the thing was the fastest recurve I have ever shot, it hit high and right about a foot in comparison.  Just could not adjust it back with the rest or brace height.  Sold it.

Steve, if you are not afraid of spending a couple dollars (not as many as you would think), contact John McDonald and have him build you one.  He makes a replica SK that is really nice.  I believe the Predator was a replica of the SK in its origins.  John is located in central WI also, up around  'Rapids  if I recall correctly.

Yep I remember him from my active WTA days.  Does he make that in a takedown?  I knew the Predator was a knockoff and that is why I was interested.  I don't like the looks of the hardware on a Bear takedown.

You plan on going to the WTA banquete?

I am planning to go.  I want to meet the Renfro's who will be guest speakers.  Want me to throw my Preditor in the truck in case we meet there ?

Re: McDonalds bow...  i THINK he makes a take down, can't recall right now.

I think Johns SK is only in a 1 piece, I owned one for awhile, although very nice to shoot and look at (looked just like a 1968), its not a fast flight bow and not nearly as "high performance" as the predator. It was VERY smooth and quiet though.

The Predator is a fine bow at a decent price. Much faster than the SK though. You also would be well served to try the grip on one first, as said before some of them have thicker grips than others for some reason.

You can get the grip thin if that is how you want it, mine feels my handa and at first didnt like it but now I love my predator, it is smooth, fast, and at 49# shoots as well as any of my mid 50# bows.  I love the high wrist, super little bow, priced right also:-)
