Title: Shawnee vs. Cheyenne
Post by: TaterHill Archer on March 16, 2008, 01:10:00 AM
I have a Morrison Shawnee that I just can't seem to shoot consistently.  I've thought about trading it for a Cheyenne. How do they compare?

I have both, I shoot my cheyenne better.  I think it's the deflex in the riser?

Jeff,
I have owned both and currently own three Cheyennes.  I personally shoot the Cheyenne more accurately than the Shawnee.  I was discussing this with Bob one day and he mentioned it was likely the added mass in the Cheyenne riser compared to the Shawnee riser.  You need to find the riser grip (low, medium, or high) that fits your shooting style.  For me it is the medium grip.  I don't think you can beat the Morrison Cheyenne...

Well, I must be the odd man out,LOL. I own both, a 56" Cheyene and a 58" Shawnee recurve. I shoot them both very well. Both are Med grip.

All Morrisons are smooth, but I think the limb angle coming off the riser of a Cheyenne makes for a little smoother draw vis-a-vis a Shawnee with recurve limbs.  For any given draw, the limbs will flex a little less with a Cheyene.  I'm guessing the pre-load is a little greater with a Shawnee.  Don't really know how these things might factor into shooting, but they are subtle differences in design.

Cheyenne was definately the best bow I'd had in my hands...better than my Shawnee for a variety of reasons. I changed the grip slightly on the Shawnee and after switching to Bob's new Dakota (longbow) foam/carbon limbs, I don't really have a need for a recurve any more. I've sold one Cheyenne and considering selling the second. Never had a bow other than this Shawnee/Dakota make me want to sell all the rest.

Great thing about it is, you can test drive both from Bob...and I highly recommend doing so. You may find you like one better than the other for your own reasons. Either way, you are buying two of the best bows there are, imho.
