Title: 160g Glue On Judo?
Post by: Deadbolt on March 14, 2008, 09:30:00 PM
Just curious if they make 160g judo's?

If not is there enough room if I melt some lead down and add 25g of it will I still be able to glue it onto a cedar without compramising durability?

Or is there not enough room?

If you have a short(er) taper, I think there is plenty of room for some lead or solder. Never tried it...guess only one way to find out.
As far as judos that heavy...I havent seen any and I have been looking....I could be wrong(again) though. Good luck!

Deadbolt - I wish they made 160 Judos!  But you are on the right track.  You should be able to fit 25 grains of melted something in there.  I cut the tip from my arrow taper and drop a bullet weight - the kind for fishing rubber worms - into the judo.  I forget which size they are but I found some that are a pretty consistent 27 grains straight from the pack.  The pointed tip drops right in and snugs in the judo taper.  It will leave less arrow-to-judo contact area for the glue so they tend to pop off easier if I hit a rock.  If you melt some lead and get it all the way into the judo it will leave you a longer wood taper to glue.  It's nice having judos, Ace hex heads, field points and broadheads that are all matched.

The Kondors are 145. Cut a little off the taper, add 3 or 4 bird shot pellets and there you go, 160gr. Easier to just use a 160 Ace hex head and they take a beating better.

we like to do alot of stump shooting and sometimes we shoot at simple things on the ground...its nice to have a judo or two for those days we shoot in heavy leaves so the arrows stick right up out of the ground after the shot rather then burry under it like my blunt/hex heads do.

Go to a good old fashioned hardware store and buy yourself some lead wool, you can pack some of that in there no melting it no air space.
