Title: Gasket Lacquer arrow finish
Post by: jimneye on February 09, 2007, 08:34:00 AM
I was told that GL was not waterproof and would eventually begin to crack and peeloff. Is this true?

Yep! Do a search on GL, and you will find several posts within the last year debating the pros and cons of the stuff.

It is a interior finish. But it depends on what your looking for. It is easy to use once you get the gasket prepped right. It is pretty. For normal use it will usually outlast 3D arrows. if lost in the grass it will go bad in a week if wet. If you chip a spot with another arrow it can peal off. If you go through a lot of arrows and have to work on them in the house it's not bad.

macbow is right.  GL will outlast most arrows unless you lose one in the grass and find it later.  If you do a lot of hunting in the rain I might be more concerned about it.  I do a bunch of shooting into a sand pile with broadheads, and that does wear on them, but that would happen with any finish.  Besides, making new arrows is fun!
