Title: 2018 or 2020?
Post by: Robert Honaker on March 13, 2008, 08:52:00 PM
Well, I'm giving up on carbons. Just never could getem where I wanted them with big FOC.
So I'm gonna go with aluminum.
Here's the specs........62in Chek-Mate H2,fastflight, 50lbs@30in...that's my draw, and off the shelf.
I originally wanted a 150-170gr point , but now I'll settle for 125 if it will get me to good arrow flight. Errrrrrr, those carbon had me puulin my hair out.
Thanks.     :wavey:
PS- I forgot to add that the arrow will be 31in long.

My draw is about 29.5", and I've been shooting a 29.75" 2018 with 175 up front lately.  It flies very well.  I shoot a 64" Wes Wallace recurve, ff string, 45@28, or about 49lbs at my draw.  You might need to shoot a 2020, since your arrow will be probably 31" long.  Don't know if a 2018 will work if it's that long, but no harm in trying it.  Good luck, Paul.

I personally would go with the 2020,, 2018 are fine but if you'd like some heavyer point weight I would shoot the 2020. Is your bow cut to center?? if so I would definately go with them,, they might be a bit stiff but with a cut to center bow you can get away with it. Plus with that number the same they are naturally a really tuff arrow,, I wouldn't disregard the 2117 or the 2216's eather bud,, JMHO,, and your probably gonna get alot,,God bless JB

wb, I tried the 2216 route with 125 up to 200gr point. No dice.
Yes it is cut to center.
Thanks.

I hear ya, Robert!

I immediately thought dates when I saw those numbers and was trying to figure out what you were looking so far ahead for.  Goes to show you how long I have been out of the market for aluminum arrows!

Pretty much what White Buffalo recommended. The 2018s are gonna be real good with 125 gr or 145 grain.A heavy head and the 2020s should be pretty close.Thier is a 10 pound difference in spine on those to choices( 67#s and77 #s) and the 2018s weigh 420 grains cut to 30 inches with insert and knock and fletching,no point. The 2020s are gonna wiegh 456 so add your point wieght and you see how heavy a finished arrrow you got.Either ones obviously plenty heavy at 11 grains per pound  or more.
Both great choices for a hunting arrow.I would lean toward the 2018.Try both if possible with different point weights to fine tune. The 202s are tougher but the 2018s a very durable arrow to boot and will shoot a little bit faster.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. But, agree with what was said above. For heavier heads, you may want the 2020's. I shoot pretty close to your set-up, only my arrows are 31". I love the 2018's.

Funny thing happened today. I have a set of heavier limbs for that bow, 59@30in. Decided today to try some CX400's that I shoot thru my compound,I know , bad word. But anyway I screwed on a 250gr BH and let'er fly. Man that thing shot that arrow, one meant for a 76lb compound, like a dream. No tinkering with nothin. Obviously this bow likes a stiff shaft.

2018's 31" with 175gr. up front shoot great out of my 66-70lb. recurves and long bows.
