Title: Is there such a tool?
Post by: PastorSteveHill on March 11, 2008, 05:29:00 PM
Is there a tool that actually straightens arrow shafts?  Wooden shafts?  I'd like to start shooting wood arrows but don't want the hassel of straightning them by hand... Any advice?

I kinda think the "hassle" is just part of the game we play.

Most of the quality shafts I have made into arrows required very little straightening, if any. That said, if you do need to straighten shafts, Guru's how to in the how-to section makes it VERY easy.
The key to straight shafting is keeping them bundled tightly until you are ready to use them. I do this with rubber bands(3-4) equally spaced. I then store them flat until needed.
Hope this helped.

You can't think of it as a "hassle". It more like a labor of love as part of the process to make a quality wood arrpw.

Can I keep a few in a quiver and shoot them regularly? Or should I put rubber bands around them daily?

Naw once ya straighten them, seal em and make em into arrows They will stay straight. I use a friction straightener from 3 Rivers. The hook straightener works good too and basically works like the heavy friction straightener. Some claim that slight heat works best then straighten by hand. Either way you choose to do it, as others have said you should look at it as a labor of love not a hassle. Other wise you'll never be satisfied with the results.

You do not need a straightener...it's easy to do it by hand.

My wooden work bench has a very small groove worn into the edge where I've straightend about 10,000 plus wood shafts. There really is no need for a tool to straighten a wood arrow.Other then another wooden surface..When you say tool that sounds like work and work sounds like hassle???? It's fun building arrows..bowdoc

My wood arrows once straight and sealed have pretty much just stayed straight. Haven't done any thing like putting rubber bands on them.

I'm with Bowdoc. Just lightly rub the bend, if any, across the corner of your workbench. Nothing to it.
