Nice way to spend a weekend Roy. Good job passing it on.
-
Nice...I wish there were that many people around me interested in bow making.
Roy looks serious about getting that handle glued up. So serious he pulled out his 12 inch c-clamps.

Go big or go home!

All the other clamps were in use.. :)

Question. When you fellows pull those R/D bows out of the form what ever profile it keeps that's what you trace the riser out with right? In other words the riser and bow fit together perfect no stress or forcing?
-
Yes...
The riser being cut on the bandsaw, you can see the curved line he is following..

Band saw,, HA!
-
Yeah, that’s the biggest PITA in building a tri-lam as far as I’m concerned. Cut, sand, check, sand, check, sand, check, repeated a thousand times.
You can also use thin strips .125” or so and it will bend to the exact curve.
-
Yeah I've made pieces like that for other things. It is kinda tedious.
-
It's not all that hard to do. Trace the curve, cut almost to the line, then I finish it up with the edge sander. Just be careful on the ends not too get them too low or you get a sloppy glue joint.
-
I'm working with a sh$$$y bandsaw, which is not helping either.
-
hmmmmm...I dream of a bandsaw...lol
Sanding down to the backing strip makes a mess..lol
