Morning Fellas I glued up these horn tip over lays yesterday and before I go to shaping & polish any body got any tricks to get rid of the glue lines ? I used Gorilla CA glue, I used my knife to scrape some at Kennys suggestion, but Im afraid to damage the glass if I scrape much more
I tried acetone on a qtip helped some or any way to mask them during finish They bug me like that ,Im planing on polish them shinny pearl black and those lines would really pop off then ? (https://i.imgur.com/4mnRY2k.jpg)

Very carefully with 400 grit paper folded over the edge of a putty knife.

Ok thanks Roy I have to run out and get some lighter grit paper any how next time Im going to mask tape the V also , wood it was a non issue but black glass & black tips its like a neon sign , is that what you did on your KM angular ?

I use smooth on for tip overlays. After they are clamped down and the glue squeezes out, I wipe the excess glue off the edges with a rag dampened with denatured alcohol. Saves a lot of messing around like what you now need to do.

Yep I wiped on them but that crazy glue sets quick oh well live and learn ,I sized the horn with the real thin CA and let it dry before, it may have a good bond but created a flat surface & pushed glue out ,next time I'm going smooth on, I have some shed antler I might use on the 64 in. it's brown glass !

When using the Gorilla glue it is best to pre shape your fades down really thin and wipe the squeeze out before it sets. when it is thin to start you can sand right off the overlay onto the glass and get a good transition. And if time is not a factor use smooth on.

I had a bottle of Black "Bowyers Glue" a couple of years ago. It set up a lot slower than blue cap Gorrila super glue. I don' know if it's made anymore? I have never used horn or bone, but smooth on might be the better choice for glue lines

I used CA a couple of times when I first started. Black on black alwyas leaves a glue line in my experience.

What about mixing the dust from the horn in the glue? Would that weaken it? It works with Turquoise and makes some pretty cool looking inlays.

Hind sight is 20/20 next time I will, Im not going to worry about it I can always use a micro brush and paint to get it to blend in , but now I know

I posted same time as you Lonnie the horn dust is this weird yellow gray brown color when sanded off it's not the same black color at least with water buffolo horn.
