Title: Where to get trilam material?
Post by: perry f. on March 05, 2018, 02:55:00 PM
Just curious where you guys were getting your materials. I'm wanting to build a bamboo backed osage. I assume you bought your bamboo, but I was curious if you knew of a good place to get osage lumber worthy of the project?

KennyM has great stuff.  I get my bamboo from Frank's cane and rush.
From Kenny I've used maple, red elm, and walnut for the core and osage for the belly all with great results.
With the prices some of those guys are charging for osage boards, it pays me to have Kenny make me osage lams to my specs, and they are ready for glue when it shows up to my door.

I also make lams with my homemade grinder.  I get ipe and yellowheart from a hardwood store in New Orleans.  I'm sure most big cities have lumber stores that carry exotics.  I've tried to buy ipe from advantage lumber, but I've had 2 bad shipments in a row, so I don't buy wood from people who don't make bows anymore (unless I've seen the boards first).
