Title: Material for Flemish Twist
Post by: oqARROWcb on February 17, 2018, 10:21:00 PM
Hello everyone. I have not been on in some time. I have got the traditional archery and bow hunting bug really bad LOL. I have leaned quite a bit over this time. I going to make my own arrows, strings and then my own recurve bows. I have a question that I hope you guys can help me with. Of course this is the place to come and ask. Can i make a flemish twist string out of BCY 8125, 8125G, 8190, 8190F as this material does not stretch. Also are the other materials other than D 97, B50, B55 etc. that I can use? I want use flemish instaed of endless loop for traditional reasons. Thank you all.

Oliver, I use b50 just because I can and I like it. Never used much else when making my own Flemish strings. However I have read many post and heard from many people who make Flemish twist strings from any thing that could be used for endless. So I believe you can use what ever you want. Of course ive always wondered if ff had the same characteristics as b50 when twisting it.
String material is a touchy subject, this should be an excellent thread to watch.

Any of those will work.  I use D97 because I have a bunch of it - It works just fine.

Glad the bug bit you.  When you start making bows, this is the place to ask for help.  These guys are good.  Enjoy!

You can use any material. B50 is very stretchy so most people prefer a dyneema based material nowadays. Basically there are two types of string material - dacron and dyneema. Dyneema will give a 10% performance increase over dacron.
Simple  :)

Took me forever and a month to learn flemish twisting..    :archer2:
I bought 2 spools of B-50 so it will be a while before I use them up.  I noticed Endless loops is nosier by far over flemish.

I thoroughly enjoy making flemish strings. Very easy once you get your technique down. Good luck

I have strings with a few thousand shots and the brace height is the same when initially twisted using B-50.
If it aint broke don't fix it.........   :)
