Title: Aluminium sleds
Post by: hunting badger on February 08, 2018, 01:12:00 AM
I'm in the market for two Aluminium sleds , one with a .001 taper rate and one with a .002 taper rate. Does any one have a source for aluminium sleds?

Thanks All

I don't but Kennym sells bamboo sleds that are very good. He can taper them to whatever you want.

i was looking into them, a few guys had them on here a while ago- but an engineering firm could do it for you quite easily.

I used an .002 alum. sled for years. I think it may have got too hot and developed a bow in it. I now have a Kenny .002. Another good material is Corian. Just be sure it is thin enough that your pressure rollers keep it flat down on the feed table while grinding.

I have some 3/4" thick aluminum sleds, only use to make sleds check mine occasionally . If you gind for a couple hours, bamboo is much lighter to handle .

And like Mike said, the rollers can hold it down because it flexes a bit .
