Title: Adding a picture to a bow?
Post by: T Folts on January 18, 2018, 11:25:00 AM
I am making a bow for a friend who's son passed away. I want to put a pic of his son on the bow and wondered how I do it. Can I have the pic made into a silk screen the apply it or is that the wrong way, Maybe a sticker. I want it to be permanent, something I can put the finish over possibly.I really have no idea.
Any help
Thanks
Terry

Paul Brunner put camo cloth under clear glass, wonder if you had the pic put on cloth if you could glue it in that way. Would be permanent.

Might want in the nonworking part tho.

You can print a pic on your computer and add that. I've done it on wood bows and added the finish over it. I guess you could put it under the glass. I'm not sure how stable the computer ink is as far as sunlight is concerned but it might be an option.

You could easily get a custom sicker made that would be permanent, but stickers tend to be thick and it's likely you'll feel it under the finish.

A more expensive, but high quality way would be to get a dry transfer silk screen. These are very thin and become almost part of the bow.

Lots of online places do them...

It is going over black glass. I'll look into the dry transfer silk screen.
Thanks

Try a company that does laser engraving for plaques, trophies, etc. They can scan in a photo and reproduce it on a piece of wood, veneer, or directly onto the riser. You'd be amazed at what they can do.
I was asked recently to make a commemorative plaque for a manager at work and because the timeline was too tight, we took it into a nearby place and had it laser engraved. Did it ever pop!
Dave.

Or have the pic engraved in a medallion and inset it in the riser.

I vote for laser engraving.  Any photographic reproduction is going to be prone to degradation from exposure to sunlight.
