May build one, looking for tips!
Thanks,
kenny
-
Robertfishes makes those... I think.
-
I'm working on two different designs using CNC...getting close, but don't have anything to show yet.
-
Not me, limbs only
-
I'm gonna wing it I think, have 2 risers to look at. Wish me luck!

The last picture, that little insert in the foreground has screws running in from the outside sides that move it left or right for limb alignment.
That will be your biggest challenge Kenny.
-
OH 4 GOT THE LUCK.. :)
-
Thanks Roy, mine is gonna be a wood riser for a friend. He liked the grip on my hunting bow so much he wants an ILF with same grip.
-
I think I can rig a router table to do the insert, the lateral adjust screws may be a challenge for sure. The wood riser I have just has them threaded in the wood I think. It's a cheap riser. I will go to the machine shop and see about threaded inserts and set screws.
-
Can't wait to see the results.......
-
That should work, Kenny.
-
I dont know if those adapters are still available but the were called donkey plates they had the bolt hole and all. You just had to route a 3/4 slot in the limb pad and screw them in.
-
This may help you.

-
Thanks Mike! I had forgotten about that one!
-
One of the few that still has pics. There was a nice one copying the covert hunter riser but with ilf made of cherry.
-
I think Tom Mann on FB made those adapter plates. Dont know if they are still available though.
-
I don’t think he does them anymore, thought it was Jim Mann . Used to sell him stuff .
-
Well. glued the first glueup today. Got a plan going, got the hardware parts today , all there is left to do , is do it. :saywhat:
-
Build along coming? Please do it.
-
Looking forward to it, Kenny.
-
Man I’d hate to do a buildalong if it went south on me! LOL
I’ll take some pics and see how it goes...
-
Got the pads cut, rounded center of back and glued on a 1/8” phenolic end to end on riser back, keeping everything square to side.
-
What's it look like?
-
Can’t tell, has plastic wrap and clamps all over it! LOL
-
Ready to start this operation...
Cutting the pad angles to 15*
I had allready rounded the point over ( bottom of 5 gallon bucket size radius :D ) before I thought to take this pic...
A piece of 1/8" phenolic to wrap over the back, sanded both sides....
About the right glue squeezeout! Must have actually done a good job applying!!
Note I used the cutoffs so I would have a straight clamping surface, and wrapped in plastic so I don't have to cut them off again. LOL

Thats it for today.....
-
I hope it works out Kenny - would hate to see you ruin that nice looking riser!
-
Looks like you are on track- that's a good looking riser!
-
I drew a plan on paper for once before starting . I really hope I don’t mess it up too!! LOL
-
Awesome, Kenny.
-
Thank you Mr. Roy!
-
More on it today, got a bit ahead of myself maybe here....
Needed a router table cause I want to hide the hardware and don't have a CNC, so improvised...
A fence to cut where I wanted, took longer than I wanted to get it set, but worked well...
And the results for today , along with some other stuff.....
I hope this all works!! LOL
-
Very nice bud.
-
Looking good kenny!!!
Think I’ll stick with building simple one pieces........ for now ;)
-
Yeah , even the TD longbows are simple compared to this. It would have been easier if I didn't want to hide the hardware somewhat. Also if I had an inch router bit. LOL
-
Looks good from here.
-
I'm going to attempt this this summer using only hand tools and a hand drill. I honestly don't know what I'm getting myself into...
-
I see a mistake already. I should have stopped the routed channel at the end of the brass piece. Now I need to add a pc of something to let the limb stop work.... Dammit!
-
I'm not following what you are saying there, Kenny?
-
I’ll have to look in morning but the copper colored sleeve prob should set on the phenolic at the level of top of brass. I can fix it but may need a longer bolt now.
-
So I wasn’t ahead of myself in the first pic, but should have only routed for the brass hardware.....

I’m confused as well. But than again I’m not real familiar with the ILF mounting system.
-
I was wondering why you routed all the way from the end of the riser to the limb bolt. Is there a reason you routed to the threaded insert?
-

Me too! But it looks you know what you are doing. Truth be told, I have never seen an ILF riser.
-
I see what you mean, Kenny. You could probably fill it with JB or ??? How about inletting a piece of the same material?
Maybe just leave as is?
-

Just a mistake. First one! LOL
Yep Mike I will probably size some phenolic and glue back in there, no harm, just hate that I did that.
My excuse- had several guys come to shop yesterday , must have broken my wagon train of thought..... :D
-
In order to fit a limb into the dovetail, you need some more space in front of the dovetail so the limb can drop down and then be pushed into the dovetail-- I'm not sure, but it looks like as is, a limb wouldn't fit into the brass insert.
-
The limb goes in easily, it is made same as my pse riser except with a partially closed end to hide the brass hardware somewhat.
-
I might be imagining the cross section of your riser wrong. I'm trying to imgaine the riser, do you have any picture of it from the end view? I know this isn't clear, sorry.
-
Check this one out. I covered the hardware on end except where the locator that snaps into the brass bushing goes. Slides right in there...
I have now fitted phenolic with a drilled hole to bring the surface back up to flush where the bolt goes.... IF I build another one, won't do that again!!
-
It is hard to make these look sleek......
Still working on it...
-
Any updates? We won't let you get away that easily...
-
Made some progress, will try to get a pic of it. Think twice, act once is my motto on it now... :D
-
She's on a diet now getting in shape for the shooting......

-
Awesome job, Kenny.
-
Thanks Rev! :)
-
That is a sexy bow.
-
Looks nice Kenny - well done.
-
Here I'm getting closer to shape I want, which is a copy of my hunting bow. The limbs are mine off a pse ghost. On this bow they take a 57" string so must be a 60" bow with these limbs?

-
Looking good Kenny. Looks like you still have some diet plans in mind for her. I like the steeper belly radius on your hunting bow. Does this interfere with the ILF hardware?
-
How long is the riser from end of dovetail to end of dovetail? If it's 17", and the limbs are mediums, that would be 60". Or long limbs on a 15" riser measured from the ends of the dovetails.
-
I can shave some more there, alsoon back closer to brass bezels. will give a bit more sight window too.
Yes, it is 17" so must be medium limbs.
So what is the scoop on how to measure an ILF riser? I just took measurements off this guys Morrison.....
-
Waaay over my pay grade brother. I'd tell ya "nice job" but I have no idea whatcha did. I was raised to believe ya'll were slower than that on the other side of the river. I think I was lied to.. Good work Kenny.
-
You measure the length between the center of the limb bolts and add 5" for the amount length of your bow.
-
I demand to see more pics. You can't just leave us hanging like that.
-
Trying, but things aren't working well! on pics...

I’m a long ways from being any kind of expert on anything, but that looks like a fantastic ILF riser to me. I have 5 or 6 risers from different makers..........that looks as good if not better than most I think you did a fantastic job........  :clapper:
-
Thank You Ron! It's been a learning process!
-
I think you nailed it.
-
Kenny it really looks nice. But here are my thoughts bro. Overall I like it. Only thing I would do is round off those sharp corners on the belly side of the riser. I like a sleek smooth transition on the riser. But that's just what I like.
But you did excellent dude.
-
Duuudeeeee I love the front view profile, I'm totally gonna steal that a bit if you don't mind lol
-
Thanks guys! I struggled with the look, but after consulting with the guy who wanted it, he picked a couple bows he liked the looks of and I sorta adapted to that. Also you gotta stay away from the hardware in there some.
He is liking the looks of it and he is the one that counts! I like it too.....
And steal away!! There aren't any totally new ideas in bows. :)
-
How does the limb alignment work out at the end?
-
Worked great! The brass dovetails have a smaller dovetail than the ones my limbs came off of so only 2 turns adjustment. Other than that , great!
I had brass bushings that had a set screw in them, but the blackwood was so hard I bought #10 set screws and a tap for them and just tapped the wood. Less visible too , so win/win.
Got a couple coats of finish on it, would like to keep it, it is sweet!!
-
I guess it's Ok.. :wavey:
-
Looks nice. I bet the riser has pretty good mass with the blackwood and bocote.
-
Pretty darn snazzy for the first Kenny.

HA , the riser without hardware or limbs weighs .02 lb more than my strung hunting TD !! LOL
-
That’s pretty dang sweet Kenny!!!
-
Other than the installing the hardware again and the quiver bushings, this one is done!

Great looking riser, other than obscuring the view of the Flag. :)
-
Turned out very nice, excellent work.
-
That is sharp!!!!
A high tech shooting stick like that, I’m a little surprised it isn’t drilled and tapped for elevated rest and plunger?
-
That is really nice. Great job.
-
Really nice Kenny!
-
Wow that came out nice!
-
That's a real nice piece of work there.
I still don't have the nerve to try a TD not to mention an ILF.
-
Looks very good Kenny. Keep up the good work
-
Awesome riser Kenny! Is that beach sand in your yard?
-
Thanks guys!
You know , I wanted the flag in there, but couldn't see the pic on my camera in the sun. Could make out the riser was about all!
I thought about the drill for a side plarte, but the Morrison didn't have one and he didn't mention it. I did install the quiver bushings later. It is gonna go soon.
No beach sand, snow, grass ,and gravel! LOL
-
I'm sure the new owner is going to love it! I make ILF recurve limbs but have been buying ILF risers, none of my risers are as beautiful as yours. No beach sand or snow in my yard, gotta drive 72 miles to Daytona Beach for that..a bit further north for the snow.
-
That's awesome Kenny!!!
-
That turned out fantastic. Great looking job !!
-
Thanks guys,
He got it today, just texted me and said it was great. I was glad he liked it!!
-
Very nice bud.
-
Wow! Looks great!
-
Excellent!
