How do the old Howard Hill broadheads rate in general? Is this something exclusively used by the HH bow fanatics, or are these in use by the general longbow crowd? I think they look like they would do the job. Nice and heavy! I will be ordering my first longbow this year and am leaning toward a Hill.
I shoot single bevel Hills, I am convinced for me they are the best. I do put a dab of epoxy on the tip of the ferrule to support the rivet and unblunt the ferrule a bit. I should add that I have killed a number of deer with the regular Hill as well. I sharpen mine exactly like the directions given from the Hill company.
The ones I've handled weren't the advertised weight of 160 grains... more like 177 grains. I wonder if that is to allow for sharpening?
Once you have filed the edge thinner it wouldn't surprise me if 17 grains have been chewed off. To me that flat spot on the ferrule is part of the charm.
