Title: Pecan Harvesting
Post by: YosemiteSam on November 30, 2017, 05:01:00 PM
I have some extended family who farm pecans, walnuts, etc.  I was thinking about seeing if they know of any orchards or individual trees getting pushed over to see if I could get some of the wood for another selfbow attempt.  I know the walnut rootstock is the more coveted material for furniture makers but older trees usually get shredded up after they take the burls.  Has anybody harvested farmed trees?  I know that pecan and hickory are of the same genus but are there any quirks with the two species when it comes to getting staves from them?

I've never used pecan but I've heard that it's still stronger than most whitewoods. It is definitely worth collecting and using.
