Hey guys. So I have an idea for a bow, but I need a bright color for a limb accent. I was thinking if using a .030 stripe of G10 instead of coretuff because the color I want isn't available in the coretuff. Has anyone tried this? Will it work, or will the glue not adhere properly? I will be using Smooth on.
My layup will be something like;
Glass
Wood or aboo lam
G10
Wood or aboo
Glass

try it--and let us know

Hi Joe,
I'm not sure why it wouldn't glue perfectly well.
As far as I understand, some bows feature a riser of solid G10, and glued around it would be the normal timber laminations....If smooth on didn't adhere to G10, I don't reckon you would see or hear much mention of the stuff on a bowyering forum.
Good luck and please show photos of your results!

I've never hefted a piece of G10 but am wondering if it might be on the heavy side for a limb lam?
-
Adhesion is great on g10 but it' doesn't have the right properties to make it a good core material.
I had this discussion with Big Jim a year or so ago and he said g10 in a limb would be a dog!
I took his word for it! Lol

This might be an answer

The limb would give up performance even at .030 for color. By increasing the limbs mass. The hardest thing would be finding stops long enough as I have to buy it in sheets to get pieces longer than 11.5”

Wood dye on a .030 lam
Water soluble
Keep putting it on until it comes through to the other side and then soak that side

Well I've found strips 6' long I was thinking of trying, but I guess I hadn't thought about the weight factor. I was thinking more about being in the limbs and bending -- maybe not being able to take the stress. You guys really think it would slow down the limbs that much? I normally use aboo for limb cores -- with them being so much lighter would it still make a difference?
Those dyed veneers are nice, but the longest I found was 12". I wonder if they can do a strip for limbs, say 1.5x36"?
Hmm, stuff to think about. Maybe I'll make two bows the same, except use the G10 stripe in one and all aboo in the other and see what difference it makes. In my head a .030 stripe in the center of the stack shouldn't matter, but maybe it does.

Stupid phone. Sorry for the double post

Ya know what? It doesn't matter anyway! The site I found it on was a misprint -- not 6', supposed to be 6". Big difference! The longest they have us 24", so I guess it don't matter anyway! Thanks for the input though guys!

Yes far too heavy for limb lams. Dye some sycamore :)
I am doing the same thing right now and have just got my sycamore.

Here's a 36" X 7.5"

why would g-10 weigh more than uniweft?

Core tuff comes in red. I think Kenny has some.

I was actually looking for like green or blue
