What do you guys like for self material and for the side plate? I used to have some real nice seal skin that I loved but I used it all
-
I have found the material that is used in paint pad applicators, like edgers etc to be excellent. It has bristles that have a direction of incline that should follow the arrow pass, but very durable and all I do is use a permanent marker to color them black as they are white as is.the arrow pass itself I just use any scrap leather that is thin but durable as I don't want to change any cut out depth more than is necessary.
-
Forgot the pads come with a backing of thin plastic that should be peeled away.
-
That's a good idea! That stuff is a lot like that seal skin. Thanks!
-
Might have to give that a try!
-
Velcro is good too.
-
I have been using sticky back velcro for years, cheap and easy to change to when it wears.
-
Usually the same thing that's on the grip, deer leather, elk, turtle, stingray, etc but have also inlaid horn for the strike plate.
For glass recurves I usually use velcro.
-
I use climbing skin (for skis).
-
I also have been using the velcro since Ann Hoyt told me they liked it.
-
Velcro, easy to get, easy to put on and easy to replace. I like easy stuff... :biglaugh:

I am still using this thin adhesive backed black leather from 3Rivers.. I cut it to shape with small sharp Fiskars scissors for both side plates and rests.. I have it on all my bows and all of Helens too. It works nicely, even for my Hunting bows that must be deathly quiet on the draw. Unlike velcro it just does not compress or wear out. I buy a piece every 4 or 5 years since I build a hand full of bows every year. http://www.3riversarchery.com/adhesive-backed-leather-bow-grip-material.html

That should be especially useful for tree stand hunters. :)

Ya, but you'd have to apply some arborist's techniques, what with those skis ...

I like Bear hair rest for brown and the Martin rug rest for black.
It's a soft "carpet" type without loops in the fibers.
Lasts a looong time.
Many of the other rug rests have much stiffer bristles and I don't like them.
I hate velcro for a rest. Those loops catch any little burr you have in the leading edge of your feather. Many people use it...just not me.
For the plate I use cheap stick on felt. Cir-cut brand I think.
not the "super" pad. That stuff is too thin.
I like there to be enough padding to silence an arrow bouncing off the plate if I muddle picking up the bow or something during the moment of truth.

Ya don't use the loop side, ya use the smooth felt side...
-
You come outta the bench ta mess with me Roy ole' buddy?...lol
I consider the stuff to be a hook side and a loop side.
The "soft" side has all these little loops that snag my stuff.
I put a little glue on the leading edge to smooth things out...but just knowing it's there after having problems.. I don't use it anymore.
Maybe I should try the stiff hook side...lol

Ok Mr. Engineer.

I'm with ya zradix. I like the bear hair rest. I think there quiver and last longer than Velcro. I just wish they weren't so dang expensive.
I tried one of the cheap generic ones on fleabay. It wasn't worth a #%*+.
