Hey guys,
Been some time since I have posted anything. Been so busy with life and starting college it has been a crazy year so far.
Started this bow two days ago and figure that it will be the one I hunt with this fall. Most of my bows have been pretty tedious with all the inlays and accents that this time I wanted simple yet elegant.
This one has black glass on the back and belly with a G10 riser. I have always wanted to try a G10 riser so I figured I'd give it a shot.
Hoping for 55# @ 28 inch draw when completed.
Here is where I am at so far...

Got the limbs roughly profiled and the nocks cut in.
Tomorrow I will add the overlays. I am unsure what I am going to use for the riser but will do a black horn for the nocks.
Any comments or opinions are welcome! Nice to be back building again!

Looks darn good for two days worth Justin!!
-
I am liking this one.
-
That is really gonna be a nice bow!
-
Sharp looking bow!
-
Looks good!
What is the thin red line in the stack in the photo of the tip?
-
Monterey it is just a discoloration of the boo.
-
I like it!! I think sometimes we try to get too fancy with our bows, it looks great!
-
Looks great so far! It'll be neat to hear how the G10 works out.
I know it's nice to have fancy veneers under clear glass and risers made of multiple woods with mosaic strips, but those simple black/colored glass limbs with solid one piece risers are great lookers, too.
-
Looks good from here.
-
Good stuff. Let me guess that car in the background is a 61-62 Oldsmobile or maybe Cadillac..?
-
Today I got the tips roughed out and looking nice. I will start trying to drop the weight in the next couple of days and then start with the shaping of the riser.

Wolftrail.... the car is my dad's first vehicle... 64 Olds Super88
-
Looking really good, Justin. You have a good eye and a knack for this.
-
Nice tips! Uhh, I guess I can say that on here....
Nice job buddy!

"Wolftrail.... the car is my dad's first vehicle... 64 Olds Super88 "
good stuff..! well I was close. In the 70's I could tell what vehicle was behind me at night looking in the rear view mirror. 80% of the time. ;)

Well today I got this bow all ready for clear. Finished out 60# @28 inches. About 5# more than I wanted but it will work just fine for me!

I love the simplicity of this bow... Shoots with authority and is dead in my hand. The length will work awesome out of a treestand. I will post pictures next week once the bow is completed!
-
No pictures...bummed out as it sounds like a great bow.
-
I cant see them either.
Photobucket seems to be a lost cause. Free photo hosting as long as you pay for it?
-
Anyone else know where we can upload pictures from?
-
Try Imgur- check out the first post on the pow wow fourm on how to use it
-
Thanks Trux... Think I posted them correctly now
-
That's a good looking bow!
-
Nice looking bow.
-
Nice looking details and curves on that riser...
-
Justin, that looks awesome and I'm not fond of black glass !! LOL
What stack did you use for 60 @ 28 ?
.040 glass?
Thanks!! Always gathering info !!
-
Sounds good
But I can't see the picture
-
Kenny,
I used the stack for the 55# you have on your plan. Only difference was that I used .50 glass which instead of .40... whoops. Plus I ended up cutting it to 58 inches so when I was completed it was just shy of 70. Was able to drop it down by trapping the back and now is a thumper of a bow. Was able to save it and really enjoy shooting this thing now. I can't wait to get the clear on it this week!
-
Got the bow finished earlier in the week... Ended up 60# @ 28 inches and 58 inches ttt... Really looking to bring this bow into the woods this season. My only problem is that at my 27 inch draw I'm right on the boundary of 500 and 400 spines so I still need to figure out what flies the best out of the bow.

I just love the simplicity of this bow and how the black and natural boo are complementary to each other

Strange. I can see some of the pics and bow looks nice, but most of the pics just says: Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting. Photobucket??
I'll try to post a pic to see If it works from my side of the pond.

Looks Great... Nice curves on the riser...

Well on Tuesday I finally ended my journey to harvest a deer with one of my own built longbows. I had to refinish this bow because the finish did not take well, so while doing so I dropped some more poundage and ended with 54# @ 28 inch draw.
This young buck gave me a 12 yard shot and I put a perfectly placed arrow just behind his shoulder. Got my first complete pass thru and he only went 30 yards. To say I am proud and humble is an understatement.

To say I am hooked again with the art of crafting these beautiful weapons is correct. I was getting pretty discouraged about hunting with a longbow because of the challenges but now I am back and ready to take on ever season with my own!
-
Congrats, Justin..
-
Way to go Justin. I hope to achieve that goal also. I've taken several with bows others have made, but never one of my own creations yet.
-
Well deserved satisfaction. Congrats.

Well done!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:

Thanks guys! This was an amazing feeling. I honestly don't even remember aim and seeing the arrow hit. But to know that everything came together as it was supposed to is beyond exciting!
Can't wait to start building my next bow!

Awesome

Congrats! That's an awesome looking bow and a great story. I'm still waiting to get a nice buck with my own bow. Of course, I'm still waiting to get a nice buck...
-
That's a very nice bow and a fine use of it by the builder.
Hmmmmmm, a new bow for each kill. Wonder if I can sell that at my house. :)
-
Monterey,
I am lucky to say the least that I have been able to build a new bow each season. The only done fall is that I have two seasons a year so the amount of bows I build is of low numbers. I also always sell or give my bows away as gifts so not having one on hand sometimes works in my favor as well.
