Title: Built for low stretch string?
Post by: J. Holden on May 23, 2017, 09:11:00 PM
I thought I'd post this question over where the builders are.

I bought a longbow used.  Through some digging around I found out that this bow was built back in the early to mid 90's.  Right about the time some bows were being built for FF string material.

The bowyer that made this bow made a few so they could shoot FF material.  I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell.  So I thought I'd see what the group thinks.

I'm not going to risk shooting low stretch thru this unless its obvious to you fellas.

I'm hoping my pictures are able to give you an idea.  Thanks!

I have 2 osage selfbows that have FF strings on them and neither has overlays. I shoot B-50 and use it on all my bows so I can't help you whether or not you can use FF string on this bow.

So what's the fear then?  Can't the bow be ruined by the string?

I never use low stretch strings so I don't know.

Do you make strings?

FF can be used,BUT the loops have to be padded withe B-50
When you get someone to make the string for you tell them what you have (Bow type) and the string needs to be padded.
Talk to this guy

Looks like it has a black fiberglass tip overlay and also a zebrawood overlay.

Typically I would consider a fiberglass overlay to be sufficient for a FF string.
