Gonna try some Stabil Kore in my recurve. I understand it's mostly for stability (anti twist).Does it matter where in the stack you put it, near the back or in the center?
-
Center works
some say between belly lam and belly glass
-
I've heard every answer possible for the placement of Stabil Core and pretty much from reliable sources. I think mad Max's answer is as good as any.

Thanks guys.

Whats the reasoning for center or belly? I use it like a piece of carbon. As close to the skin of the back as possible seems to be the consensus as the deeper it gets the less effect it has on the limb. Stable Kore does add torsional stability but also vertical stability.

Stickmokey
More Info. on your findings, Please
3rivers question & answers said same as Stickmonkey.

The Q&A I looked at just now had several answers. One stating to put it on the back and one from 3rivers saying it didn't matter.
I seem to recall it was. Kirk Lavendar who said put it under the belly glass. Was part of a discussion on trad archer dot com.

Can you get a link to that post?
Thanks

Here's a link to the topic. Seems like Kirk favored center placement. So much for my memory.
Yours May be slipping too. Noticed that you were the last post in the topic. :)

Kirk taught me a lot and we were pretty close at one time and he always told me under the back glass if black or just under the veneer of the back if clear glass. I have been using it like that and have had very good results with vertical stability in my longbows but I will call Kirk today and find out.

In the above referenced topic he stated center but seemed to base that on appearance.
Looking forward to hearing back from you on this.

I did find this from Sixby and I respect Steve a lot so forget what I said since I am building hybrids and I would go with that Steve said.
"My personal experience is that I get more stability in radical large hook recurves using stabil core which is a combination of S glass and carbon fibers, next to my last center core and to the belly side of the bow. Between it and the belly glass would be a thin veneer, Usually .012 to .015 depending on the wood. I just take .015 out of the stack and usually hit close to my target weight.
As to UniWeft I have used a lot of it and what I have found is that I get the same of not more benefit from StabilCor plus its less than half the physical weight of Uni-Weft.
I have also placed the Stabil core dead center in the core and still do in some applications , depends on depth of stack and amount of laminations. My finding is that in longbows it is not nearly as important as it is in recurves as to placement. Still , If I get more stability closer to the belly in a rad recurve I can probably deduct that there is more stability with that placement with a D and R. In a straight longbow I doubt it makes any difference and the basic plus would be the light weight of the product.
God bless, Steve "

I place it in the center and between the riser and the first back lamination. I want it as close to the working center of the bow as possible.

I have heard using thicker glass on the belly side of the limb will help with stability. I have not tried stabilcore yet but, would do as Sixby suggests and put is as close to the belly as possible. I like stickmonkey have a great deal of respect for what Sixby says.
