Title: Boo backed A-boo
Post by: Troy D. Breeding on April 24, 2017, 11:31:00 AM
Received a new batch of A-boo for core lams this past week. I received it in  6' length and was womdering if anyone had ever tried A-boo as belly material for a boo backed bow.

I've heard of it being used as core for a tri-lam but never as belly material. Just wondering because I don't have that many pieces of boo for backing and didn't want to waste one if A-boo of a dud for belly material.

Troy, what is A-boo?  I know for bamboo bellies you want the rind, or at lease the outer power fibers intact and you want to temper it. I watched James Parker temper boo for a belly and he really blackened it with a propane rosebud torch.
 Under glass it doesn't matter.

Bamboo floor, Vertical

You can't use it for the belly without glass

I've made a few and really like there performance and looks, I like the natural boo better though. I was just getting everything out tonight to see how much materials I have to make a few. Need to order some supplies from Kenny and I will be ready.

Photobucket is messing up and slow or I would post some picks.

Built a few back in the day. Takes significantly  more set than any other belly material I've used.

Thanks Roy! I wish somebody would have told me you can't make one with out glass before wasting all my time. This bow is many years old now still holds backset and has killed two turkeys and a big 11pt.    :bigsmyl:
