Title: D/R kit?
Post by: piradad on March 23, 2017, 09:50:00 AM
I would like to build a bow this winter after I finish my new/garage shop.  I have zero experience doing something like this but am fairly handy and my son's want to do this with me to eventually make their own. (some would say we are cheap I prefer thrifty:)  Any wisdom regarding best way to make a first bow would be appreciated.  New to site but love what I am seeing.

1.  Would like to try a first one with a lamination kit and need some advice on a good place to order one and possible wood choices. Have seen some on 3rivers.  I am sure there are others that folks here know about and would recommend.

2.  Any good links to aid in building a form would be welcome.

3.  Is it possible to make a bow with a kit that would be in the 50 to 55# range?

I currently shoot a Bob Morrison Shawnee @28-65# and am looking for a bow lighter as I age.  :)   Too many elbow/shoulder issues from hs/college fb are catching up to me.

Thanks for any advice.

Kevin, if you have the opportunity come to the Tenn. Classic(May5-6-7) near Clarkesville, Tenn. Lots of wood bow building and a few venders selling backed bow glue ups and plenty of tools and folks to help you with your build.

Not sure, but your post makes it seem that you want to build a glass/wood lam bow.  If so, Google Bingham projects.  They have everything you could want or need to build a first bow.  Kits are poundage specific and widely varied in weights available.

Once you are ready to start, post progress and questions here.  Lots of willing advisors.

And, welcome to TG.

Here is a thread that will give you an idea where to start.  kennym, a member here of Tradgang, has recently gone back in business I believe and while he doesn't sell a kit, he got me all I needed to build my first bow.  And he is very helpful. Look at this link to see his latest project.
