Title: Bo-Tuff Dark Brown Fiberglass
Post by: ty_in_ND on March 01, 2017, 12:57:00 PM
Hi all!

While I'm not really going to get at making a fiberglass bow anytime soon, it is on my bucket list for my bow-making endeavors.  When I do get to that point, I'm thinking my first attempt will be something simple: either a HH-style or a Kenny M-style longbow using colored glass.

While browsing the internet, I came across a site that sells "dark brown" Bo-Tuff glass.  On the screen, it looks more like a maroon (which I would like more than dark brown), but when I try to find pictures of people using it on a bow, nothing shows up.

Is there anyone out there that has a bow using this dark brown fiberglass (either one they made or purchased) and can either show a picture of it or say for certain what color it is?

Thanks!

Big Jim sells two shades of brown and maybe a caramel. This is one of his darker but can't remember what he called it.

The upper one is the dark that has little tint of maroon to it.
The lower is the brown that Bringham carries.
I like the dark better myself and got that from Kennym.
I'm hoping he stocks it when he's back up and running.
HINT,HINT Kenny

Thanks for the pictures, Carpdaddy and rockkiller!  By the way, rock, what wood(s) did you use for your riser on the bow on top?

I would say the brown in rock's bottom pic is the same as Carp's.  That brown looks fairly "brown" and actually looks like the glass this same website sells as "medium brown".  rock's top bow looks like the sample I was speaking of, which indeed does look like it has a tint of maroon.

Kenny, if you do get back into selling supplies, I'll keep you in mind, as that dark brown looks really nice.

I used dymondwood for the riser ,but its not available anymore since the factory burned down.  There other similar products out there I think.

And I thought I had the dark glass!    :)   At least we thought alike on the riser wood.

HA! Nice!

Thanks for sharing, as I have ideas in my head for what I'd like to do, but it's good to see how others go about it.  Sweet bows, too!

Tony...nice looking bow.
I picked  up a couple of blocks of dymondwood from river edge  products a few years ago when I was back home in Wisconsin for my annual whitetail hunt.Wish I would have grabbed a bunch more.   :banghead:
