Title: Bamboo backed Ipe D/R
Post by: scrub-buster on February 28, 2017, 10:05:00 PM
This is one of James Parker's bow blanks that I got from him at the Tennessee Classic last year.  I got it shooting during the classic but I left it the full length.  I finally got around to finishing it up.  I cut it down to 63" long and retillered it.  I didn't check the weight but it feels a little heavier than my 50 lb bows.  I'm guessing 55-60 lb at 25".  The tip overlays are water buffalo horn.  I used the gloss rim sealer for the finish.  I'm not crazy about how the handle turned out.  I'm planning on getting another one from James this year at the Classic.  I'll do a better job shaping it.  The weather wasn't cooperating today.  I tried to get some pictures in between the storms.  They didn't turn out the greatest.  The orange and black dye job didn't show up very well.

For those of you who make it to the Classic this year check out James Parker's bow blanks.  They are very good quality.

Nice job, Clint. Did you leave the rind on the boo?

James did the dye job on it.

Roy, the rind has been removed.

Nicely done!  Great tiller.

What are the advantages of deflexing the handle area as opposed to leaving the handle flat?  I can guess but I would like to hear your opinion.  It seems that most guys are doing it this way.  I've made a few BBI bows but I've always left the handle flat and put the deflex around mid limb.

To be honest, I don't know.  This is my first real D/R bow and James Parker glued it up in that shape.
