After 20 years and quitting my trad archery supply business, the job I quit my business for may come to an end. Long story , but political forces and lack of funding may make me jobless in April.
I almost wish I had quit that one and kept the trad supply biz, but didn't see this one coming and the "real" job had good benefits. I just couldn't keep doing 2 full time jobs. Makes ya old!
I'm debating re-opening the supply biz as I still have all the equipment and a good shop .
Any thoughts? Got all the suppliers you need already?
Have to have a plan before things happen. :cool:

Sorry, I wasn't around when you had your business. So I don't really know what all you carried. I know you ground lams, but don't know much beyond that.
I know that there are others that do lams as well. Which from what I've seen/heard they do good work. My hangup with just getting started and not planning on a large quantity of builds is the ability to one stop shop. Otherwise shipping charges are a killer.
I know I wouldn't be a huge contributor, but could you enlighten me on what you did or plan to carry.
I would much rather deal with an individual/small company. But I guess my biggest thing would be being able to get glass and wood lams at the same place.

PS sorry to hear about the possible job loss. I know from experience that it sucks not knowing what tomorrow might bring.

Roy, come on out and I'll show ya how to build a real bow.... Actually, I tip my hat to selfbow and lam all wood bow builders. You guys have it goin on!!!
Brad, I carried glass, glue, lams , veneers, phenolic, and some riser blocks. TD kits, bow plans, form templates, wedges, power lams, tip wedges.
And prob some stuff I've forgotten

Life hits you in the face every now and again.
Recently walked out from a job I'd been at for 14 year. Business started by an old guy passed on to kids. Rarely a recipe for success ,it would seem.
Couldn't cope with the madness any longer.
Fortunately I have enough spare to keep me for about the next 9-10 months AND it gives me time to build bows!
I'll never make a businessman, capable of dealing with bureaucratic madness which is why I've always worked for some company or other.
Trying to figure out the best way forward too.
We'll both likely get down this stretch of the road of life without running into a ditch (might be a few bumps), so long as we drive carefully!
When life gets on top of you, at least you can ignore it for a while by making a bow or getting out in the woods and shooting one.

kennym....I've been trying to put together a form based on your design and was about to contact directly for some recommendations in ordering riser/lams/veneers to start my first build, so starting your supply business back up would benefit me.
But I am only one customer and I have no idea how to run a business.
Whatever your decision I wish you the best, I've been jealous of you knowledge and craftsmanship for awhile.

I don't know how this will go down yet, but the "real" job seems likely to end or I will end it. I was just wanting to get an idea on what kind of business I might have.
I just want to transition over smoothly if I have to. I hate surprises!!

I was a one man band in UK for 10 years before I came to Canada. Enjoyed how I made a living (sign painter) but I'm allergic to paperwork and I hated having to chase people for what they owed me, which is why I ended up working for someone else.
First 2 years of a new business are the hardest. If you can get enough regular customers for your bread and butter in the first 2 years, the jam will start to show up thereafter.

As a guy who was downsized last fall, 62 y.o., just short of 20 years with the most dysfunctional company I ever worked for, I can sympathize, Kenny. Sucks to be thrown for that loop. If I wasn't on a really tight budget these days, I'd definitely buy from you again, my friend.
My one and only glass bow (I'm more of a wood, wood/lam guy) was made with lams and glass from Kenny. He helped walk me thru the build and gave me the link to a terrific build along he did awhile back. I hit the weight I wanted and love shooting that bow. I can't recommend Kenny more highly. Plus, he manages to get along with Roy. That's pretty exceptional, too. ;)
