Title: Bow Makers Annonymous
Post by: passion for knowledge on January 26, 2017, 06:24:00 PM
Is there, by any chance, an organization called Bow Makers Anonymous?

I'd like to sign up!

I've not been at it very long, but I think I may have a 'problem'!

Me too
I only work on bows every other day, some times every day.

No problem here.  The only two times I work on bows is when I am with someone or alone.  The rest of the time I am thinking about them but, that really doesn't count.

Bow Building is a Disease!..

There is no known cure..

Only regular treatments of sawdust making can ease the symptoms.

It's not a disease.  It's a pre-existing condition that has only recently gone symptomatic.

Happily addicted for nearly 20 years now  :)

BMA has regular local meetings in several areas of the US.  The annual meeting is in Marshall MO in July.  We even imported an addict from Canada one year.  It's been a decade since I felt the need to attend since I have mastered Step 1: Honesty.  I honestly know that I will never overcome my addiction  :)

Good luck with your recovery, or acceptance.

I have been making bows for 20 years as well, at my peak I was making about 15 a year, now I am down to one or two a year if that many. I have 154 shooters logged in my book so far.

You all will slow down as age gets the best of you, at 69 I just don't have the drive anymore.

I suspect I cut my last and final osage tree a couple of years ago. I gave all the wood away which tells me there need not be any more tree cutting in my future.

I think acceptance will be my approach.

Not many 'problems' you wish you'd run into sooner!

I've been making bows for 25 to 30 years now and I can tell you the symptoms do lesson after a while but I don't think it would take much to get back to the full blown disease.

Since pre existing conditions are covered now we should be able to get free treatment.... That would leave more cash available for bow building   :bigsmyl:    :help:

Heck I haven't gotten pictures of big foot yet, and you want me to make a bow? What's in the water up there anyway?   :)

I could ask the same about the water down there.

Beer's safer, as I'm sure you know!
