Post by: joe skipp on December 31, 2006, 03:20:00 PM
Got this Mikuta Longbow in for a customer just in time for hunting season. Finally got some pics of the bow. The bow is 58" 46# at 27". Brown Actionwood limbs, Hunters Blend riser with small thumb rest. Bow is Left Hand...

I like Ed's bows. They're always lookers.

Well it is not really a longbow    ;)   but it looks well and is supposed to shoot even better.

It really is a longbow. It meets all the criteria to qualify at any shoot I know of as a longbow. Shawn

Joe...it is a longbow. The riser is quite a bit "meatier" than your standard narrow longbow grip. This type of grip/riser with the thumb rest makes the transition easier for shooters going from recurve to longbow. I personally don't shoot longbows well with the Hill grip or one thats dished. The mass in the riser totally eliminates any and all hand shock plus the grip w/thumb rest puts your hand in exactly the same spot every time and helps eliminate torquing. Here are a few more pics of the riser/grip...

Very nice! Hunters Blend riser-Action or Dymondwood?

The Hunters Blend is Actionwood, very subtle looking in the woods. Jeffreys use to call his multi colored risers, Mtn Camo...it does blend nice.

Dave...I'm bringing both bows to the bunny hunt so you can shoot mine. Bringing you Kwik Styk right? I'm also bringing the Kempf Stealth to play around with. Should be fun....

Please do not take me too serious when I say it is not really a longbow. Therefore I put a smiley after that statement. For all that shoot 3D tornaments I found an interesting rule in the IFAA  rule book:

7. Longbow - (L.B.)
a. A one piece straight ended bow of any material, which when strung displays one
continued unidirectional curve, which is measured as follows:
When the strung bow is placed with the bowstring in a vertical position, the angle
as measured between the tangent of any point on the limb and an imaginary
horizontal line must always decrease as this point is moved further away from the
bow grip.

OK Joeare....I'll rephrase...it is a one piece Reflex/Deflex longbow not built or designed according to the specs you listed above.

By the way I have several "one piece Reflex/Deflex longbows" and I love shooting them especially for roving and hunting (if I were allowed here in Germany  :(  ) and only one bow that actually fits the rules of the IFAA. I bet the Mikuta's handle with the thumb rest provides a very consistent hand placement that is my personal most crucial point for consistent shooting.
For what draw length are these bows suitable?
Thanks,
Joe
