Post by: macbow on December 09, 2016, 05:51:00 PM
Is Ash a suitable wood to use with bamboo?

In my opinion Ash is suitable as a backing wood since it is strong in tension and not so strong in compression so I would not use it with a bamboo backing. It makes a good self wood flatbow though.

You could build a bamboo slat bow, using the rounded outside of the culm as the belly, and then back it with Ash.

Thanks, they have some nice ash at a local lumber yard.
May pick some up for backing.

You can use ash to back anything. Even the densest of bellywoods. I actually like it more than hickory for backings.
